Last October I bought a house. I always figured I'd upgrade to broadband, but I was getting free dial-up from work and I really didn't want to shell out money when I could just wait a couple more minutes and get the same thing. You know, since it was free. Well, recently the dial-up got to be a hassle. A big hassle. Some things were taking up to ten frickin' minutes to load. When I got my last shipment of DVDs to review I had to drive to work to let Nick know I received them (yes, I was putting my reviews on the back end at snail speed. And that Best of The Steady Leak (http://chud.com/steadyleak/1043)? Done over the phone line!).

That was the last straw for my fiancée. She up and ordered cable internet access. God, I love her.

The installer got dirt all over the Geek Room, but now I don't have to take a break while the main page is loading. Please, feel free to give me your "about time"s.

Oh, and I finally went to the CHUD Boobies thread (http://chud.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44348). What's the big deal? It's all talk. I was expecting, you know, boobs. Although Gist's chest is pleasantly hairless.

I've had broadband for so long that I take it for granted now. There was a point a few years ago that we had to use the free dial-up account though due to a service interruption....it's painful to go back.

High Speed is nice. And it's fast!!! ugh... It's impossible to go back to dial up after experiencing high speed access. The long waits become excruciating. We have high speed where I work and that's where I do most of my chewing. At home I used to have dial up at my place but I just cancelled it because my fiance has a cable modem and I'm there more now anyway. Actually, that's basically "home" now, but not because of the high speed. I'm a geek, but not that much of one.

I checked out that Chud Boobies thing not too long ago as well and was also expecting it to be a bit different than it really is. Heh heh...

I of course got used to a T3 at my apartment (its shared access but not many people used it, so getting full access to it was nice). It was great, and now I've transfered to a new college, and the dorm speed is that of ugh cable.

Bell South DSL munched a big one. I have cable now, but either way there is no going back to dial-up. The only thing to watch out for is if you leave your computer on all the time, some bad people can gain access to your personal info if they are so inclined, and most of them eat Firewalls for lunch. I unplug my cable when I am off-line. Enjoy!
