I'm formulating a list of the greatest howls/screams/yawps and so on. Here are some that come to mind

Harvey Keitel's disturbing cries in "The Bad Lieutenant"

Susan Blackline's screams in "Jaws" (she played Chrissie Watkins)

Fay Wray in "King Kong" of course

May as well end the list here because screen screams never topped this one.

I know that it's not a scream or anything, but the noise Asami makes in Audition...Kkkk, kkkk, kkkk, kkkk, kkkkkk. Whoa. That fucks with ya.

And I agree, it begins and ends with Fay.

Marilyn Burns in THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. Good god, that woman can scream.

The scream in Day of the Dead when the holmes gets his head torn off. The sound of the scream as it changes when his larynx is seperated from his lungs still haunts me to this day.

Robert Mitchum's scream as the two kids get away on the skiff in Night of the Hunter . It builds up slowly in him and when he let's it out his scream drowns out the soundtrack. It really is creepy because he sounds less like a man and more a defeated animal.

There's a lot of memorable screaming/sobbing/moaning/gurgling in Girl, Interrupted. Particularly around the end.

I have a deep, deep affection for Indiana Jones' hilarious scream when Marion bangs the mirror into his face in Raiders of the Lost Ark. though, truth be told, it wouldn't be as funny without her "did you say something?" remark afterwards.
