... Explain the hate for Return of the Living Dead Part 2.

I saw this for the first time when I was nine years old in a double bill with The Monster Squad and have loved both films ever since. Until I read Ryan's article on the dvd release I had no idea that my view of this film wasn't shared.

Love or loathe I want to know what you think of this little gem. I personally can't wait until I can import the DVD as all I have just now is an ex-rental copy my dad bought in '91 that has the trailers for Chopping Mall and Demonwarp on it.

Where can I get those films?

I've not seen it for a few years, but from what I remember, it's just too goofy.

The zombies in the other films occassionally crack wise but they were still vicious as fuck if they caught you. Look at part 2, I can't think of a single grisly demise.

The zombies were reduced to comedy shemps. "Get the dang screwdriver... out 'a' ma head!" Jeezas... And that Michael Jackson zombie at the end?

All this said, I'll probably get the new DVD for completist's sake, 'cos I like to piss my money away like that. It's the only possible reason I could own Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Tremors 4.

EDIT: Incidentally, nice Peter Kay quote in your sig :D

This can be the only film that I can back up and fight for (I should do it for RE but there's alot of love for that film). I wanna take someone who hates it, take off my glove and slap them with it. Sure ROTLD Part 2 was goofy and lame, but it was entertaining. I'm picking this up so I can complete my ROTLD series.

Meyer's Son is right. I personally love the RotLD series, for the reasons a lot of people hated it: it's got a sense of humor. Not even a black sense of humor, like in Romero's films, but a goofy, apocalyptic sense of humor. Granted, it's been years since I've seen it, but I don't doubt the movie will have lost it's charm. And how can anyone say it's not grisly! The scene in the hospital with the zombie cut in half, and his guts are dragging behind his lower half still gives me the creeps. All of the movies get me more ramped up for Ellory Elkayem's sequels, esp. Necropolis, from what little I've heard of it. Can't wait til this streets on DVD!

I'm one of those with the hate. But I'll admit it is an empty no-cause hate that simply came from watching it the first time a little bit after seeing ROTLD 1 the first time. I loved the first so much, the 2nd didn't have a chance and I remember thinking it was lame and horrible. Though I can't really tell you why or what about it made me think that. I barely remember it at all.

I did really dig #3 though. I'm kinda intersted in checking #2 out when it's released with a fresh perspective (and frankly, not huge hopes---which can't hurt.)

I've actually always loved this film. It's my least favorite of the ROTLD series, but since I love the other two, that's not saying anything bad. It's basically the first film, but with a larger feel. I adore the scenes of the rampaging zombies through the burgeoning suburb and the hospital scenes.

Years ago, as a child, I used to see this at the video store all the time when my parents were renting movies and the image has always stuck with me. It's just such a great cover, I wish they still made them like this.

Chop it up to pure nostalgia or whatever you will, but I really like this movie and I always will.

To Hell with ROTLD2. They saw that the humor in the first film was the selling point so they tried to cash in on it again in part 2. But overdid it to the point of being ridiculous. ROTLD2 had potential to be great but they blew it. But nobody's perfect.
