That reeks of fan made material. I hope to GOD that this isn't the "REAL" trailer for the movie. Because this sucked monkey balls!!

Can I just ask what's bad about that trailer? Sure, I'm not happy that this film is attempting to fit into the established Romeroverse but that trailer is hardly anything to get angry over (save the shitty logo at the end). And, would you believe it, no signs of aliens in it!

Sadly, it is!

I couldn't believe it myself!

Is this a commercial for an ACTUAL movie or is it a teaser designed to get financing for the proposed remake?

I wouldn't say it's bad - just more like "What's the point?" The whole build-up to the zombie basically says, "Okay - now what?"

Didin't like that transition to the title though, and I think it could've done without the original score.

cool crane shot at the beginning. horrible trailer though

Where is this supposed to fit in? Is it before Night? After Day? What?

Now, if a zombie burst out of the door at the beginning, it would have been cool.

Horrible....but man, just reminds me how much I love Day's music.

Well, from watching it a second time I still don't like it. I'll list it like this:

Dislikes-

Text in the trailer. It looks like some cheap font that you'd see in a basic Windows Paint program.

Ending picture. Looked like it's a fan made poster. Really cheesy.

Point of trailer. I agree with the member who posted about the trailer saying "What's the point?" After I watched it I said "Yeah, and??" I really didn't see any point of the trailer. You see dead people, and it ends with a zombie. Wow. They should of showed zombies killing the people. Like quick shots of how they died while they did the walk through the building.

Purpose of film in general- Even though the trailer really didn't focus on this, I'm just against a remake of 'Day of the Dead' or a sequel for it. The only 'Day of the Dead' remake that I really want to see is a movie from the original script that George Romero wanted to go off of.

That's all for the dislikes.

Likes-

Music. I agree with the other member. Hearing that music made me think of the sweet music from 'Day of the Dead'.

That's all for likes.

well, when Romero came to my school to talk last month, he said he has plans for another sequel to the series.....which he wants to name...."Dead Reckoning" but that is he can get financing for it. I have no clue what these fools are trying to do , but it ain't a true sequel. Leave that to Romero.

geeesh, what's so bad ??? ....Sure, there wasn't much to the trailer, but it certainly wasn't that bad ....

I actually liked the vibe ... kinda felt like I was about to watch a movie my friend Ralph snuck out of the video store he worked in back in 1983 . . . granted, I hated the original DAY, so I figure even an abortion would be an improvement ....

time to break out the coathangers

Thought the trailer was ok. We're only pissed off because it uses the name and the music.

Least you can say is that the lines "every day brings a night..." are not very clever... And the poster looks awful.

Wha the Fa?

The original's Calypso-style music really doesn't fit the mood of a fan made Children of the Living Dead-looking cheapie zombie movie.

I hope John Harrison, the writer of the music is getting royalties.

I too, don't see the point.

They caould have called it anything, but the name Day of the dead sells ...so they make something completly different and title it Day of the Dead.

I would actually respect it more if they titled it Day of the Dead and had NO ties to Romero whatso ever.

From what we saw...which isn't much, it does look really shitty cheap.

You just know the zombie make up ends just below the neckline of the shirt.

But, fuck it...it's a zombie movie, so I'll get it.

I think they deserve some credit for giving the blind some much-needed work in the field of web design.

The blind are far too often overlookd in this field, and I agree they do deserve props for that alone. The complete and utter ineptitude of the look of the page, and the site as a whole, is a credit to the company's dedication to employ those that are sight-impared. Kudos to them!

05-06-2004, 08:31 AM
I think that same blind guy did the transition of the logo in the trailer too. Does anyone have any idea who the website is aimed at? There seems to be no hint of trying to sell the concept to the public. Maybe it's just somewhere they direct potential distributors to if they want to show them the trailer. They don't even seem to have a link to it on their homepage.

What sort of distribution has their previous work had? Did they hit major stores?

TIA
Dogg.

Reminds me of Bill Ninzman's Zombie Nosh/Flesheater - another shamles rip of the series, but a pretty nifty and fun one.

Let it go.

The poster concept, the dark photography (probably doen to the awful quicktime conversion) and those idiotic teaser lines that actually make no sense chronologically (though they at least get the rule of threes right) aren't so good.

The rest: worth a sneak ? Sure.

Why is this movie going to suck ?
1. The website, if you can even call it that, looks like a 6th grader's class project (that got a C-).
2. The horrible font with the even more offensive attempt at a tagline.
3. The blasphemous use of the original's score and logo.
4. The fact that nothing happens in the trailer.

When you have a low budget movie of any kind, you need to market your film more aggressively. If there is anything worthwhile in the movie, it should be included in the trailer. It's not like this is some big budget flick like SPIDERMAN, where you can have a 20 second teaser that shows nothing more than the logo, and people will still flock to see it. You have to give an audience incentive to see the movie if you have a limited budget. My feeling is that the filmmakers know their film is worthless, and are just hoping by using the DAY name alone, people will want to see it.

Support this atrocity, and all you'll get is a guaranteed wave of shit movies shot by clueless hacks to stink up your video store, while the father of these films, Mr.Romero himself, still struggles to get his films made. And that's a shame.

But, theoretically, to the low-budget-horror geek fraternity (to which this is squarely aimed), this trailer, with it's iconic music and logo, IS EXACTLY like the mainstream Spiderman 2 style teasers.

I give 'em credit for not slathering gore over the screen in an effort to impress. People complain endlessly about over-the-top, empty gore and money shots. So someone some balls, comes up with a little subtlety (however well it's pulled off - I still think the cane shot is still nice) and they still get slammed for it. Way to give them a chance...

Geeks are fickle.

God. At least, if Troma had done the movie, there'd been some tits in the trailer. Sorry Straxboy, I don't think there's any defending this film. Review what we've heard and seen so far:

1. It was made quickly, so quickly, in fact, that we didn't hear much about it until a few weeks before the movie was announced as BEING FINISHED! Not a good sign.

2. We find out details of the movie's plot from supposedly one of the players: Alien space virus starts the whole thing. And there's an alien zombie baby involved. Well, that settles the mystery of how it starts. Bullshit. Everything about it reeks of crap script withDay Of The Dead added to the title to jump on the bandwagon.

3. The trailer starts off okay, but denegrates to nothing suspenseful, the usual amateur drivel put out to make the movie seem smarter than it is. And it ends with the crappiest flash graphic ever.

4. That's the official poster. I shit you not.

The only upside is that this may replace HOTD as my all-time hated horror movie, eliciting nothing but much-needed and hilarious scorn from me and my compatriots. If it comes out and is good, I'll be shocked. But I'm not getting my hopes up. Plus, I can't wait to see what George's reaction to this abortion's gonna be. Hopefully, he doesn't drop dead from watching it.

I'm going out on a limb here, but if this movie gets into the mainstream, the Zombie movie trend is OVER.

Straxboy - An Anthony Hickox Film
05-06-2004, 12:01 PM
That's a lot of wasted effort directed toward something that doesn't matter much....

...also, pure conjecture, if tits is all it would make you think it wasn't hideous.

So they didn't heavily pre-market it during production ? No crime I ever heard of...

I'm playing Devil's advocate, of course, but at least wait 'til the picture's available to see. I like the concept behind the teaser: even if it's not blindingly original, it tries to show you it's more intelligent than a head shot or gut rip. Suspense. that's a brave thing to throw at the low budget tits 'n' gore crowd. And obviously the wrong thing. How do you know the picture is nothing suspenseful ? I like it.

You're better than me. I'll deal.

I wonder if an online petition has even once made the slightest bit of difference...

Anyway, they must have got the rights to use John Harrison's music for this (which I thought would have been tricky even if they do have the rights to Day). I'd be interested to see if they try to add anything to his score or remix anything for this movie or if they are going to just slap his score randomly throughout the movie. Given the great source material, I'd say a lot of musicians and sound producers would love to see what they could do with it.

Dogg.

In all honesty, rape would be on my list of prefrences before being subjected to shit like BRUISER again ....

At least with this CONTAGIUM film, someone actually finished something .. Low budget, yep, but so what ??? .. At least it got made ...... I cannot comment any further about the finished product, however, I know that George Romero hasn't done anything but bail, complain, get fired, and make the occasional bomb in the past 20 years ....... at least he could involve himself in something ....

How can he have any passion for the art of film when he's not even involved anymore ...

Hey Everyone

I have exclusive information about DAY of the DEAD: Contagium.

As I did when I covered the DAWN remake, I will be doing the same for this DAY of the DEAD Prequel/Sequel.

I spoke to Jim Dudelson the director of DAY of the DEAD: Contagium. DOTD:C Is a prequel and Sequel. It starts off back in 1968 and explains the origins of the Zombie Plague and then Fast Forwards Ahead to present Day.

1/3rd of the Budget was for effects alone. Taurus Entertainment has sent me 3 set photos and the Films Synopsis.

Day of the Dead is soley owned by Taurus Entertainment. Richard Rubinstein does not own the rights to DAY of the DEAD. George Romero has no involvement in this project.

Mr. Dudelson was impressed with the coverage I did for the DAWN remake, on my WET N WILD RADIO site and is allowing myself and my partner to bring the Official Sitefor DAY :Contagium live for everyone. We are deep in the progress of the site as we speak and it should go live by Monday.

Fangoria will get some information to run in a future Issue, However we will bring the majority of the Information to you, the fans.

DOTD:C has been optioned by 2 companies so far, Both have offered Direct to DVD release but Taurus is also entertaining offers for Theatrical release as well.

Some of you might have seen a Trailer recently, That trailer was used to help market thr project at the AFM expo. It does not reflect what the tru essence of the film really is.

Jim Dudelson has directed the films Horror 101 and Horror 102.

I have optioned a web domain for the new film. www.dayofthedeadmovie.net and we will be bringing you all the up to the minute news about DOTD:C.

Also, Taurus will be having us host a Contest for the film, They are looking for a Tagline for the film,We pitched the IDEA of a Tagline contest to them and they agreed. The Winning tagline will win some great prizes which will be announced at a later date.

As I Said We will be launhing the Official Website for DOTD:C by Monday with some small information and a place for you to discuss the film Via message boards. We will also have a submit your question system and Mr. Dudelson Will be providing the Answers first hand.

Stay Tuned to www.dayofthedeadmovie.net and learn all about this new Zombie film.

So doing a quick calculation after watching the trailer...the BUDGET looks to be about $97.65 and a case and a half of Jim Beam.
