So I finally caught this last night on IC (in between a documentry on Dario Argento and a horror doc about horror in the 70's with Tobe Hooper, Wes Craven, John Carpenter, etc) and I must say that after watching it, I felt like I needed a shower.

Yeah it's gory, but that's not what bothered me. It's like the director/star was making his own snuff film. It felt like some sort of bizzare fantasy flick, and by fantasy I mean his.

If you click on the Info button for movies with digital cable, TV guide has a little synopsis on whatever you are watching. They had they're shortest synop for this, right next to the one start they gave it: "He mutilates people." Heh...they weren't far from the truth.

However, methinks that Lucky was giving a nod to this movie with May. The 'Maniac' has a house full of dolls and maniquins. I wonder...

Sleazy. Thanks, that's the word I was looking for.

Had a hard time buying the fact he was able to woo a good looking fashion photographer looking like Carl from Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

I admit the scene after he blew Savini's head off, when he had it aimed at the girl, that was a bit tense.

i love the shot gun to the head bit

it only leaves a small whole in the window, but the guys head pretty much explodes

the DVD rocked cause it had all these letters it recieved from places that wouldn't show the movie, they were so damn funny

Joe Spinell was an awesome actor and presence onscreen ... I love MANIAC, especially the first 30-40 minutes ...

I also proudly own the DVD Tin ( w/ head-shaped CD :) ...

In general, I love films shot in and around NYC, and the period between 1976 and 1980 had so many great ones: TAXI DRIVER, MS. 45, GOD TOLD ME TO, MANIAC, CRUISING ... these great sleazy 42nd Street style films are truly a lost art ...

A great horror film is like a great roll in the hay: it's gonna take awhile to wash the sleaze off ....

The film itself is really nice looking. Beautiful, even.
