I think that if you go and search and find for yourself you will be more happy. Be more satisfied. HAHAHA.

The best place to download movies is Best Buy, they usually have a great selection. If you walk in the day something comes out, it's most likely the cheapest place to download it.

Wow, great move. You're looking for movie downloads, and the first thing you think of is a discussion forum. Did you by any chance type "give me movies" in the google search bar?

Try Movelink.com. They have a partnership with about 6-7 of the major studios and a college student discount.

Best Buy may be in expensive, but Circuit City is often times cheaper. But, both companies have a price matching policy so it really doesn't matter. I just hate how people always go running to Best Buy and ignore poor CCity. We gots DVD's too.

Yup, a lot of times Circuit City is a buck or two cheaper too! I got a few of my dvd's from CC. And they also have those nifty 9.99 cd things.

Beer Die sleeps on parkbench, you work for CC? Know when the next cd sale is?

It's easier to find cd's (and dvd's) at Best Buy than CC.

So you have a problem with this?i have a problem with pretentious idiots who attack other people for downloading low quality movies on the internet when its barely cutting into the big studios budgets if at all. and if it is fuck them, theyve got enough money, more than me at least so im not going to shed any tears for them. what happened to the music industry wont happen to the film industry, at least not any time soon. its not nearly as convenient to download a movie as it is to download a song. besides, going to a movie is a social activity, only a hermit would substitute going to the theater for watching movies on his computer. people are still going to go to movies, so the point is if you dont download movies thats good for you but it doesnt make you better, smarter, or a bigger movie buff than anyone else who does so just shut the fuck up already

And you managed to get all that from two sentences that I posted. That's amazing. I'm still trying to figure out how you figured out my entire stance on movie piracy in there. I mean, wow.

I don't download movies for a lot of reasons, but the main one is that I really enjoy seeing films for the first time in a movie theater. I also like buying DVDs, as I'm a collector. I grew up in a time when patience was a virtue. I don't know when that axiom changed. I didn't get that memo.

And by your logic, since they have more money than you, I guess it's okay to steal. There's a lot of supermarkets that have more money than me, but I don't grab me some groceries and just walk out the store with them.

It's not cutting into studio budgets yet. But as download times get quicker, and more programs come out enabling you to burn those films to DVD, you can bet your ass it will, and that's going to show up later on.

But do whatever you want. I'm terribly sorry that the MAN kept you down this long. But if you can't even admit on any level that it's wrong, well, your parents sure did a bang up job.

If people really prefer to download movies rather than going to a theater then they don't belong there anyway. I don't download movies because I would never in a million years watch one on a computer screen in shitty lo-res, let alone watch a movie on my computer at all. I enjoy film, I suggest you all go out and do the same.

Ahh, the irony of an illegal movie downloading thread right next to a thread about the Oscar screeners and piracy...

People who don't want to DL = pretentious idiots? Nah, they're probably just more scrupulous than I am. You may not believe it, but people really care about that kind of thing here, sincerely.

I download movies/music/whatever all the time. I don't make silly little rules for it either (i.e. "I only download really obscure Lithuanian Situation Comedies because they don't come out on DVD ever.") I know it's evil, but finding really obscure shit on the web is fucking addicting. So is getting a movie two weeks before it gets released. I justify nothing, because it is an injustifiable crime. One that I am comfortable with commiting though.

If you have money, DVDs/theatres are the superior experience. Especially if the company producing a DVD puts effort into the DVD's production.

Having said that, have you tried mIRC? BitTORRENT?

I download stuff all the time.

However, I love movies and DVDs to the point that I don't consider money I spend on them to be money spent. I don't think of movies in terms of being 'worth the money' or not. I think that devalues them. Every movie is worth money.

I saw Matrix Reloaded 7 times in the theatre. Thats at least 50 bucks. It was worth every penny.

I enjoy film, I suggest you all go out and do the same.ok.. i would never justify piracy.. i dont make half hearted attempts to delude myself into thinking its acceptable. but for god's sake posts like that ^ haev got to stop.

the resolution on a monitor is actually pretty damn good, ill have you know. monitors themselves are getting pretty darn BIG too. no television set, for example, however large, will be able to compete resolution wise. so for gods sake.. stop posting nonsense like this.

another thing is that quality wise ive seen many dvd rips that are virtually indistinguishable from teh real thing. compression technology is getting better everyday, and a reasonably long flick can be compressed to around 1.4gigs (2cds worth of space) with outstanding quality. and i mean out-standing. if you think im talking out of my ass, trust me, youd be surprised.

secondly.. tv-out is a very handy little invention.. an invention which apparently none of you die-hard anti-piracy advocates haev heard of. what it means is, ill have you luddites know, is that you can play any of that downloaded stuff directly on your state of the art home entertainment system. which is, in my opinion, pretty goddamn close to a theatre experience. hell sometimes its better. which is why they call them state-of-the-art.

so, to sum up.. yes piracy is wrong, yes the authorities should lock up pirates, and yes there is no justification for it. but for gods sake.. if your justification for NOT pirating is simply that your monitor is too small, then you need to get out from under that rock, man.

if the mpaa only had to deal with people watching shit quality pirated stuff with mono sound on their 14 inch monitirs leaning forward on their swivel chairs, theyd have very little to very about. fact is .. that is not the case.

Hehehe, this is the best thing I've read all day! I have TV hook up also, but the one thing that always suffers unless you get lucky enough to get a true DVD-rip that has a seperate audio track is the sound. The FOTR press screener had excellent video, but the sound was just basic stereo. The DVD was soooo much better. The Extended DVD even better than that.

yea , man, youre right. sound does suffer the most. but with the recent proliferation of broadband.. im starting to see more and more "true" dvd rips. its getting quite interesting out there.

I find a lot of the fun in downloading stuff is that you get to see different versions sometimes of flicks. Take 'The Blair Witch Project' for example. There are scenes in the theatrical version that were shot on colour film that explain about Jack Parr(?) (the man who killed 7 kids back in the 50's) and how he would kill one kid while another one stood in the corner of the room, etc. ALL OF THOSE INTERVIEW SCENES WERE MISSING on the downloaded version that was floating around at that time. The entire movie had a different tone because of it, because more was left to your imagination IMHO. I run into shit like this pretty often. It's like winning the lottery a little bit.

(culled from everywhere from requiem for a dream to being john malkovich) and average picture quality. i actually PREFER the temp soundtrack, since i love all the movies it was taken from, but the point is the wp version of OHP was 3 times better than the theatrical release.. when i saw it in the theatre with some friends i could hardly beleive my eyes when i saw how dumbed down it was compared to the wp.. heartbreaking, i tell you. suffice to say, thats one dvd i DIDNT buy. heres a link to a thread about the whole episode for your perusal.

This coming from a guy who endlessly replicates himself in an electronic construct much to the chagrin of the humans plugged into that construct? OH THE IRONY! wink

But yeah, this conversation has been had a million times. I wonder what the impetus has been lately for so many different threads? There a new product out there people are using to DL or something?
