For me there's only one even though it's tough to say anything has been better than Prince of Persia.

Call of Duty has to get the nod from me. Great game!

Vote Slater.

Or Knights of the Old Republic.

Morrowind, heh.

I really need to play other stuff.

Cube - Wind Waker
PS2 - Final Fantasy X-2
X-box - KOTOR

Honorable mention for most time spent playing goes to Tony Hawk.

I think the only game I got this year that was released this year was Mario Kart. I'm always behind the times.

Wasn't Wind Waker released this year?

gravedigger

That could be. I know I got it long after most people finished it, though.

I guess I did get Enter the Matrix but that's not quite Game of the Year material.

I agree completely. Those would get my vote. If I just had to pick one though, it would probably be KOTOR.

For me, it's a tie between KOTOR and Prince of Persia.

If you made me pick one, I'd pick Prince, though.

If it weren't for Call of Duty I'd say Prince of Persia as well. Zelda did come out this year.

I also agree with these, plus I'll add Call of Duty for the PC.

Wind Waker takes the overall GOTY for me.

CHUD really should have a game award or at least CHUD's favorite games of the year article. And the winner for Most Disturbing Game Award goes to Manhunt, says I.

I'd have to give my vote to KOTOR. Consider, it's probably the best Star Wars-themed game ever made. That's pretty impressive when it seems that about 60% of all games ever made are Star Wars-themed.

Knights of the Old Republic.

...And I don't even like RPGs.

I'm going with FFX-2 for the PS2 only because I havent snagged up Prince of Persia yet.

Best 3 of 4 part series released this year: Dot Hack

I haven't played it yet, so in order to cast my vote, help me out; what game is FFX2 more like:

A- FF7

B- FF6

C- FF8/FF9

otisthecat

FFX2 doesn't share much of anything with those you mentioned. The whole game is mission based with fully real time battles. Hell, as far as gameplay goes, it doesn't share much of anything with FFX even.

Vagrant Story perhaps? Haven't played a PS2 FF game, and most people I talk to found X-2 dissapointing to say the least.

It's actually a really fun RPG if you can get past how silly it comes off.

It's not so much that you have to get past it, but more that you have to get used to it. It's a fun story, (at least so far..I haven't gotten that far yet) and that's not something that is standard for FF, or any RPG's for that matter. It's goofy at times, yes, but if you're ready to have fun with it, then it's fun. It's almost refreshing in a way. It's not so dark and serious as most RPG's tend to get. It's a much more light-hearted story, and I like it. Good game so far. I'll wait until I'm further to pass a final judgement.

See, I stopped playing FF games during the middle of FF8, right after they made the discovery that all the characters were children at the same orphanage, and the big bad guy, the witch/sorceress was their nanny.

I put the controller down and never played another FF game.

A silly story is fine. It doesn't matter what kind of story it is, as long as its quality.

Once they start talking about midichlorians, I'm gone.

I'll register what will most likely prove to be the only vote for Smackdown:Here Comes the Pain for PS2. Simply amazing.

1. Zelda: Wind Waker
2. KOTOR
3. SSX 3, motherfucker!

Blunt

Silent Hill 3 has my vote, followed closely by Zone of the Enders 2, the most underappreciated game of this year.

Prince of Persia, Viewtiful Joe, Beyond Good and Evil (I should start a topic on this one) and Wind Waker were also worthy contenders.

With Max Payne 2 a close second i'd have to say Call of Duty is my #1 game of the year.

So, my top 3 would be:

1. Call of Duty
2. Max Payne 2
3. Knights of the Old Republic

Prince of Persia is gloriously slick games-making, and a joy to play, but it's VERY easy to complete and - in the long-term - not really anything I'll treasure in years to come.

But I did (finally) buy myself an Xbox over Christmas and having ploughed through Halo like a demon, I'm now wallowing in the warm, moist folds of Knights Of The Old Republic.

Holy shit. Now that's a fucking game. Love it. First game I've played in months that's kept me playing until the early hours.

Rainbow Six 3 for me.

This game delivers on all fronts....great single player...incredible and endless LIVE play...incredible graphics. Good stuff all around.

I think this thread is very indicitive of the great year in gaming we've had. I doubt if this was a serious poll, maybe it should have been, if there would be one clear winner. KOTOR would probably edge everything out by a hair as well it should, great game. RPG's just aren't my bag even though I enjoyed KOTOR I couldn't enjoy it as much as my fav FPS genre fair Call of Duty.

Over the holiday I started playing KOTOR as dark as possible and I must say that this game deserves to win. I didn't think it would have this much replay value after I had beat it as a light sided character.

I was going to say KOTOR, but I got Project Gotham 2 and Crimson Skies. Both of these games are putting a strain on my marriage.

Gotta go with KotOR (Xbox).

Very close in the running:

Call of Duty (PC)
Prince of Persia (Xbox, PS2, GC)
Crimson Skies (Xbox)
Rainbow Six 3 (Xbox)

Runner-up: KOTOR devoured my fall break and I only managed time to play through as the light side.

Runner-up: Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga - even though it illustrates that the GBA does not have enough buttons, it was a complete joy. The battle system was great and it has to be the funniest RPG I've played through just about ever.

WINNER: Super Mario Bros. 3 - because it's Super Mario Bros. 3

I second that. Best way to relieve tension after a long day.
