Burn a movie onto a CD-R so I can play it on a DVD player?

Oh, and I'm pretty sure the method you use is dependent on the DVD player you have, and what formats it can play and how they decode a signal.

Unless your DVD player can read Video CDs (or VCDs) then you're probably out of luck. Most newer generation players do, though. Just check your manual.

As for burning a movie onto a VCD. First off, you must have the film on your harddrive in an MPEG format. Then, you can use some CD burning software that automatically creates VCD files (I recommend Nero Burning Rom).

Also, a word of "warning"... the quality of these things ins't all that great. They are replete with digitized artifacts and you can only fit about 1 hour of video on a CDR. So, if you want a whole film you'll have to use 2 discs.

These days, you'd be much better off just shelling out about $300 for a dual-format DVD burner.

I don't have $300 to blow on a DVD burner and probably wouldn't use it enough to justify a purchase.

If your player plays SVCD, you can get a much better picture. SVCD uses an MPEG-2 compression, so things look a lot closer to DVD quality.

Oh, and SVCD is Super Video CD.

Looks like we'll have to hook the projector up to someone's computer.If you get a friendly face at a tech or camera shop, they might transfer the video to DVD for you for a fee without talking about copyrights issues. It helps if you have permission to copy the video.
