I am wondering if anyone has any tips on pulling off cheap historical costumes, specifically turn of the century British military uniforms and civil war uniforms. This is for a series of short horror films, trailers really, similar to the Lilo and Stitch "inter-stitch-als" that I am writing right now with an eye at shooting. Thanks.

Your best bet would be if you know anyone in the Drama department over at 721. They can get access to props and costumes like you wouldn't believe and it's free (the magical word that brings joy to millions).

If that doesn't go very well, there's always the costume stores around here that are kinda friendly to the nyu student filmmakers. They should have that sort of info on the 9th floor, or if you got one of those production handbook thingies they give out to everyone.

Anyways good luck sir! Will I be seeing them at First Run anytime soon? Or the S&S: Showcase?

Thats 'Ms.' Werewolf Gurl to you:
Im not sure what you mean by pulling off, more info please?Okay, here is the deal. It is a series of short films that I describe as being the "Vampire Forrest Gump" in that it is about a union soldier who becomes a vampire in the civil war (yes, I borrowed from the Near Dark DVD...sue me), and has adventures up until the present day. For example, the part that I am writing after this one (which is almost finished) has him encountering HP Lovecraft and "inspiring" the Cthulu stories. Don't worry, it's not as corny as it sounds. The shorts, depending on how many I write, will jump around in time and not follow any real chronological order. The first part deals with his becoming a vampire. When I say pulling off, I really need only one clear Confederate and two clear Union uniforms, the rest I can fake.

So that's what I mean.

I'm thinking you might have some luck with those Civil War re-enactment societies. Maybe you could get in touch with a few of those folks. If nothing else, they could tell you where they get their stuff.

Of course, I'm a Yankee living in the South, so these kinds of things amaze me. I don't know how easy it would be to accomplish in the York of New...
