Say that 10 times really fast I dare ya!
So what are some of the ultra creative areas in the U.S.?
I've been told by so many people that I should move to Hollywood but I have to be honest it's impossible for me to leave Chicago! I was thinking about this on my way home from the city the other night and Chicago to me is inspiring. There is such a strong sense of art and community here that isn't pretentious in the least compared to other places. It just seems to me that leaving Chicago would be leaving a large part of who I am and what makes me different than the thousands of Kubrick wannabees in Hollywood.
Any thoughts?

Gotta agree. Hollywood is where all these shite ideas come from. But basically if you wanna get around in the industry its best to at least get clse to it. Im going to San Francisco, for film school, which is close enough for the time being. Doubt it'll affect me much, i was never much for following others, always went my own way. I think if you just go do your own thing, being around the fakeness of hollywood shouldnt change you.
Course you could always go the indy route and stay even closer to your Chicago roots, do it yourself. Always gotta repsect that the most.

You definitely don't have to move out here if you love Chicago. Sometimes moving away from that place that you love can be inspiring. I didn't really love Connecticut. It wasn't really inspiring to me until I left.
Don't let all the talk of Hollywood being all fake and pretentious get to you. That shit is everywhere. If you can deal with those types in Chicago then you can deal with them here. I have met loads of cool people so far that are nothing like what I was constantly told before I moved here. There are good people everywhere.
If you feel more comfortable & artisitc in Chicago though, then stay and do your thing. You may eventually feel that you need to move to Hollywood, and you will, but you don't have to. Movies are possible anywhere. It's been proven time and time again.
My main reason for moving here was film, but I have a lot of other reasons too. I had to prove a lot of things to myself. I had to get out of a funk that I put myself in. Blah, blah, blah...
Do what works for Floydian Trip. I think the best advice one can get is to follow his/her heart.

there are plenty of other creative areas in the U.S. Don't leave if you don't want to, just understand that it may be harder to get your stuff noticed.
As for the other question about other creative areas for filmmaking, Austin, Texas is huge.
