First and foremost, my deepest apologies to everyone. I've had a knock down drag out with the Asian Crud (these really nasty things always seem to come from Asia: the Chinese Flu, the Singapore Virus, etc.) or with Captain Tripps. I'm not sure which. Anyway, I'm sending a batch off tonight, so there will be more creative goodness to enjoy.
Meanwhile: I think that all of us (myself included)need to brush up on our editing, so here goes:
Write 3-10 paragraphs (not dialogue) and send them to me. I will post them here, and each of you get to do a hatchet...I mean solid edit job on them. We will be doing this on the board, since it's just a short exercise. Here's how it works:
1)You send me up to 3-10 paragraphs, as if they were taken from somewhere in the middle of a story you are working on. They have to be original (more's the pity for some stuff I've read), and they have to be roomy enough to allow some flexibility, while conveying some meaning. They can be a description, a series of actions, anything you like.
2) In your e-mail, title it "Editing Exercise - Title" (where Title is your personal title for the paragraphs, and let me know if you want credit for the paragraphs or not. I'm hoping to get a few submissions from each person that wants to submit, some credited, some not. I have a feeling that knowing who makes a submission will affect the way that we play, and want to see if I'm right.
3) I will set each entry as a separate post, for us all to play with. Each reply should be your way of rewriting the entry, and should show what changes you would make.
So, do you guys want to play?
