Wait, you have reason to believe a Chewer wrote that?

Also, bebop is awful. The shit you people like mystifies me.

First of all, I don't know what "Tell me why you're suck a cockswaggler?" means.

Second of all, Cowboy Bebop does not suck.

Just thought I'd step in here and say,

"Cowboy Bebop" is excellent.

OK. Leaving now.

I'll never know if it's any good since I can't watch anything with a name as goofy as "Cowboy Bebop."

I'm a new convert to Bebop who previously had an extreme distaste for anime. Don't let the name deter you.

While I don't hate Bebop (and there are FAR sillier names in anime), I do think it's insanely overrated.

No, no. I assure you it's rated just fine.

Haven't seen Cowboy Bebop, but I'd be very surprised if that guy were a Chewer. Last I checked, Chavez and I were the only Milwaukee-area guys here, and the fellow who wrote that is a regular critic for the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Edited to note that Chavez and I were the only Milwaukee guys I'd noticed before. Guess "You're Gonna Get the Business" is a local, too.

I've seen it once, didn't catch me, but other people like it so that's cool. I've spent the last year explaining to people why I like Attack of the Clones, so it's no worry to me. People like what they like, what does it matter?

It's just like how people view Asian films. Some think they're awesome (Team Asia and I) some think they're not worth the time of day.

That's fine some people have different tastes or mindsets towards films than others (non P.C. answer is that some people know better than others). wink

Several of my friends tried to get me into the show and I refused. It sounded, and looked, goofy as hell. I just got into it in the past couple of weeks and I just have to say it is simply amazing. The tone changes with each episode but the characters and execution are so great that you can swing with it and it seems completely organic. An episode could be extremely silly and light hearted (ANDY) then the next can be heart breaking and moving. I highly recomend it to anyone that hasn't be turned off due to the name or any odd negativity in this thread. I am not even an anime fan.

My problem with the review is summed up by this paragraph:
"A real itchy comment could have been made along the way about the paranoia engendered by terrorism, SARS and whatnot. Instead, the self-satisfied storyboard rests content with chic ultra-violence and a scene of rote, unexamined homophobia rendered all the more disgusting when you remind yourself that someone actually took the time to draw it."

You would at least hope he would check to see when it was made.Instead of trying to sound like, you know,a critic,he could do some fact checking.I don't agree(at all)with his review, but that doesn't get me mad.The unchecked facts do.

Then again,there is this gem:
"Far too many animated films beg the question of why they are even animated in the first place."

"Most of them fail to exploit the medium's full potential, to explore the properties that make animation different from other styles of filmmaking. And that goes double for anime, an all-too-frequently dismal pastiche of sci-fi, noir and action-film visual cliches."

"So it's no surprise that the feature-length version of Cartoon Network's Japanimation hit "Cowboy Bebop" winds up a joyless hatchet job."

I would really like him to explain HOW it could have been done live action for less that 300 million. To say that 'Cowboy Bebop' doesn't use animation's full potential is really, really retarded.

Indeed. The dogfight sequence alone - if it was filmed in live-action identically to the way it was shot here - would be the most exciting and expensive dogfight ever filmed with real people.

Unfortunately, that's not even physically possible. It could only be done with extensive CGI, which would essentially be using computers to "animate" humans.

So, his point about this being some routine action adventure that could've been pulled off in realtime is bullshit.

As for Cowboy Bebop itself.....easy fellers.

I knew nothing about the show, loved the movie, and plan to watch all of the show's episodes, but I can fully understand why someone wouldn't like it.

ANYTHING that's different and stylish like that will have fans and detractors. No need to fight over any of it, tho.

This is what pissed me off.It would be like me saying Seven Samarai needed a good car chase. It would only take 2 seconds to find that it was released in 2001,and had to have been worked on since '99.

Edited to note that Chavez and I were the only Milwaukee guys I'd noticed before. Guess "You're Gonna Get the Business" is a local, too.Well, I sure as hell didn't write the review;

I've noticed that the good ol' Urinal-Sentinel sometimes has problems matching their review staff to what they're covering - not that I want a blinders-on fan gushing about his favorite film/band/tv show, but from the tone of this review, this Bozelka fella really doesn't seem to have much use for anime...which is perfectly fine, but you shouldn't be sending him to review an anime film.

And the comment

Far too many animated films beg the question of why they are even animated in the first place."

"Most of them fail to exploit the medium's full potential, to explore the properties that make animation different from other styles of filmmaking. is just fucking ridiculous. You could make the same argument for most films made in COLOR.

And a final note for all Milwaukeeans: that Sue Pierman bitch they have doing reviews is just FUCKING AWFUL.

You're Gonna Get The Business

Her and Dudek both.[/QB]Eh, I don't mind Dudek so much - probably because I'm used to him; he seems to have a little bit more intellectual weight behind his opinion, whereas Pierman strikes me as being a fan of cutesy comedies and not much else, and that colors her review of everything that is non-cutesy.
