So what's the deal with your nick name on these here message boards?
Mine is from a test name I cam up with while writing some of my first programs. Everyone at my previous job starting using billylove for program testing.
I know some guys I worked with that still use it.
How about you?
General Logan
06-18-2002, 03:19 PM
General John Logan was an exceptional leader for the Union in the Civil War, he led the way to build relationship s with the South when the war ended. He is also the man behind Memorial Day.
General Logan was used before CHUD by me as a handle I used was a character from Star Wars Role-playing campagns, both in reali life and online.
It is also the url for my soon to be reborn website: <a href="http://www.generallogan.com" target="_blank">www.generallogan.com</a>
voltes5

Voltes 5 is a name of a robot from an anime back in the late '70s. If you know Voltron, you know Voltes 5, except Voltes 5 is way cooler. I love Voltes 5 because he's a kick-ass robot who wields the dreaded laser sword and the ever-popular "UltraElectroMagneticTop!" (he shoots out spiked tops from his midsection, while using his belt [yes, robots wear belts] as the whip to spin the tops).
Here's a pic:

The core is simple, really. The greatest bounty hunter in the galaxy.
Obviously, my current appendage is Middle-Earth related.
Andre Dellamorte
06-18-2002, 03:31 PM
One of my favorite movies of the last ten years that is somewhat obscure is Cemetery Man (though not necessarily obscure in these circles) or as it is known internationally Dellamorte Dellamore. The main character's name is Francesco Dellamorte, but at one point he says he wants to change his name, "Andre would be nicer."
I thought a semi-obscure reference to a semi-obscure film would fit perfectly here on Chud.
Dan Whitehead

Sadly, this is my real name. CHUD is the first message board where I've wanted people to actually know who I am. Make of that what you will.
But when I'm incognito on other boards (not very often these days) I usually use the name Doctor Goldfoot after the truly terrible Vincent Price camp classics. Sometimes I use Damn Dirty Apes as well, and if you don't know where that's from then you ain't from round here...
Rath/Brendan
06-18-2002, 03:43 PM
I don't really remember where I came up with my handle. I think it was sometime around Episode I and I was writing either a fantasy or Star Wars story. I wanted a cool name for one of my characters and thought of Mace Windu. I dropped the Wi and added Ba because my first name begins with a B and used Rath because, like mace, it sounds violent. You know, Wrath-Rath. Something like that.
And a hero was born...

Mine is simple. I worship the Dave Matthews Band. Waaay back when I started up my hotmail account, I used my two favorite DMB songs as the name, "Tripping Billies" and "#41". My two favorite songs ever have changed, but I've always kept the same name on every message board I've used.

Big Black
06-18-2002, 03:57 PM
<img src="http://www.easystreet.com/~pbogh/bb-saf.jpg" alt="" />
Big Black began in Chicago in 1983 and revolved around fanzine writer Steve Albini. In an interview, Albini explains why he picked the name Big Black:
Why don't you tell me how you came up with the name and whose idea that was?
Big Black was a name that I came up with when I was in college. It was just sort of a reduction of the concept of a large, scary, ominous figure. All the historical images of fear and all the things that kids are afraid of are all big and black, basically. That's all there was to it.
Was there any racial context at all?
No. I kind of wish that there was, because then all the people that have been saying that would have some basis for their arguments.
So people would say that?
Oh, people say that all the time. But, y'know, people are fucked, as we all know.
When you've been confronted with that, what has been your standard rap?
"Go fuck yourself" is my standard rap.

Cheese Biscuits
06-18-2002, 04:25 PM
I am what I eat.
Actually, I'm not, because I don't really like cheese biscuits. My name came from my e-mail address (cheesebiscuits@charter.net) which came from a nickname my friends gave me (they've called me Cheese Biscuits about 3 times total, about 2 years ago, but I liked it). It came from the fact that I love cheesy movies, so a clever friend said, "I'm going to start calling you Cheesy," then another, more clever friend said, "No, I'm calling you Cheese Biscuits."
Lame story, yet true. Or is it? Could it be that I am actually a pair of rotting cheese biscuits... glistening in the hot afternoon sun on the side of the road that managed to find access to a computer somehow? Could be my friends.... could be...
My current appendage and sig are references to a certain Leonard Shelby.
Blunt
06-18-2002, 04:32 PM
When I started going into chatrooms, I used silentbob, being the big Kev Smith fan that I am. Realizing that this was plain unoriginal, I changed it into another Smith reference by combining Bluntman and my real name (Matt, if you haven't figured it out). I now tend to shorten it to Blunt.

Martianman
06-18-2002, 04:49 PM
I'm a huge Marvin the Martian fan (along with Looney Tunes in general), and one day at work, I wore an obnoxious Marvin T-Shirt, and this girl started calling me "Martianman" after that. So it kinda stuck. :) And currently, I'm altering my name to fit a chosen upcoming big summer movie, then when that movie has been released, I'll change it to another one.

Bet you didn't know there's a recurring caller/guest on the Stern show also called Big Black.
Mine's taken from the license plate on my first car, a used '86 Oldsmobile Cutlass. Added the "i" and "e" for comfort. Plus I really like The Hitcher.

It's my last friggin' name....
Rollo Tomasi
06-18-2002, 05:10 PM
Rollo Tomasi was the name that Ed Exley (Guy Pearce) gave to his father's killer in L.A. Confidential (the movie only, not the book). The fact that Exley told Jack Vincennes (Kevin Spacey) about Rollo Tomasi eventually led to the solution of who was behind the murders in the movie.
Jack Szagreus

Jack
(is my name)
Szagreus
(is a play on the name of Zagreus, the supreme god of Greek Orphism and said to be a son of Zeus and Persephone. At the instigation of Hera, Zagreus was torn to pieces by the Titans and when they proceeded to devour him Zeus appeared on the scene. Driving the Titans back with thunderbolts he succeeded in saving the heart and gave it, still beating, to Semele to eat. From her and Zeus the divine child Dionysus, the Greek god of wine and ecstasy, was born.)

Richard Dickson
06-18-2002, 11:48 PM
Mine is the name of a fictional megalomaniacal villain I made up off the top of my head one night hanging out with some friends. I posted in character under that name on a friend's message board for a while, and liked the way it sounded, so I used it when I started posting here.

Z-Man
06-19-2002, 01:07 PM
Ronnie "Z-Man" Barzell, America's Teen Tycoon of Rock and Roll, is a character from my favorite movie, Russ Meyer's Beyond The Valley of the Dolls. He's a rather flamboyant rock mogul who has extravagent swinger parties at his Hollywood Mansion.

Bet you didn't know there's a recurring caller/guest on the Stern show also called Big Black.i do. he's one more rambling caller who apparently lives with his parents and spends his days recording the audio of television shows.
there was an african musician in the 60's who travelled around extensively opening for bands like Cream etc. who also called himself Big Black.
Camus also used the phrase once or twice in reference to death.
there's a Conan comic I have in which a Zingaran soldier refers to the Pictish wilderness as "the big black."
the Stern clown is my least favorite.
Alice in Wonderland
06-20-2002, 09:24 AM
It's been my nickname since I was a teenager, due to the fact that I had a dress with a white pinafore that I really liked. A friend of my best friend's boyfriend called me Alice in Wonderland and it has stuck.
My homegirls only ever refer to me as Alice. My family calls me Helen.

It's Tommy Lee Jones character in Lonesome Dove.
I just decided to use my first name. Not a slam on anybody, but I saw Video God, God of television or some such and I am the lord god of everything and I thought, "What horseshit is that," when I first came here. So, I thought I'd use my own name and what I was known as in school.
I even posted a thread about the "I am the God of the known Universe" thing a couple of years ago, before the current person started thinking he was god, lord of everything in the known universe.
Its not original, CHUD has a couple of GODs of this and God of that, about two years ago.
I always have coveted BurritoWeasels name though. I wish he'd sell me that fucker.

And sometimes I wish I used my real name.
Everyone used to call me Collins in school.

Frost is short for Frostbite, one of the Deviants from the DV8 comic book, the first 8 issues of which kicked much ass.

Swykk
06-22-2002, 02:59 AM
my last name is swickard but since that's my former stepdad's last name (adopted) and he sucks ass, i shortened and restructured it to "swykk". friends call me "swykk pac". and from time to time here i'll use variations of it. i'm looking at "the swykk identity" as my next name.

Mine refers to Amy Archer, Jennifer Jason Leigh's character in The Hudsucker Proxy. I too am a verbose tomboy from a small town who went to a secretarial polytechnic.
"Yeah, you know, she's probably one of these fast-talking career gals who thinks she's one of the boys--probably is one of the boys if you know what I mean. She probably suffers from one of these complexes they have nowadays. Seems pretty obvious, doesn't it? She's probably very unattractive, and bitter about it. She probably wears men's clothing, swaps drinks with the guys at the local watering hole, hobnobs with some smooth-talkin' heel in the newsroom called Biff or Smoocher or-"
"Smitty."
"Exactly! I bet she's ugly--real ugly--otherwise why wouldn't they print her picture next to her byline?"
"Maybe she puts her work ahead of her...personal appearance."
"I'll bet that's exactly what she tells herself, but you and I both know, she's a dried-up, bitter old maid."
