Hell, I'm offended, too. I just don't see the logic in this practice. If CHUD is so addicting and appealing that you can't simply decide not to frequent the board, then things can't be that bad. Seems like grounds to re-examine your decision to leave and delete your existence to me.

More importantly, why add to the problem by depriving the boards of a well-regarded personality?

It sounds as if that was in response to what I wrote, and so I offer this in kind:

The messageboards may have been meaningless to you, but you were not meaningless to the messageboards. Now, all of your previous posts are simply marked with a period just like Kiteless. In effect, you've not only left the boards to avoid future contact, but you've desecrated your past on these boards as well. Of course, this has no effect on those who already know you, but those who don't never will have, and that sucks. Why simply leaving the boards wouldn't suffice I'll never know, but it's too late now. It's very disappointing in any case.

Just don't log in for a while! DUH.Mike specifically doesn't make a big deal about his leaving and yet others feel that it is necessary to do so.

If someone wants to leave, let them leave. The constant need for people on these boards to cry about folks leaving is really pretty sad. Your enjoyment on these boards should not hinge on one persons presence.

I will miss Mike dearly, but his absence will not reduce my enjoyment of these boards as I can still communicate with him through e-mail and IM.
