View Full Version : Mistakes and regrets...

The other day in this thread I did something I generally don't resort to, name-calling. A tired mind and idle hands is the devil’s playground, that’s not an excuse, just a plausible theory. I called Devin names when I should have been trying to support my argument with fact or opinion. If I'm going to pick a fight, I should do it intelligently; I resorted to the lowest common denominator. Anyways, sorry about that Devin, I'll try and be a more thoughtful adversary in the future.

Sorry, but I'm sick of half hearted apologies from people like him who endlessly attack me. Either stick to your guns and attack me or just leave me alone.

Guys, we have too many threads like this.
Show me it can go a different way than I think it will, or this thing is getting closed.

Shameful, just shameful.

I don't want this thread to get closed, either. We have too many threads getting closed lately. Of course, it's not as bad as it could be, but I still don't like it.

I wasn't referring to the closing of the thread, but I find it ironic that yesterday one of the parties was asking for an apology from someone else, but won't accept an honest, heartfelt one from another.
Actually, I should just stay out of it.

I don't want an apology from him. Nothing he said annoyed, upset, or offended me. If he feels bad about calling me names then he should just stop doing that.
There's no irony here, unless Alanis is around.

What's a shame is that we all feel we should stay out of conversations on a public message board. Of course, any of us who do get involved in this one could very well be labeled trouble makers, depending on how it goes.
And I do know what you were talking about, kitty. That's the funniest part of this thread.

UGB, that was a great post, and mighty big of ya.
I don't attack Devin in the normal sense. I might tell him to come up for air once in awhile, but it isn't meant to be taken personally. Then again, I apologized for even that. I'm getting too soft in my old age.
We are all under added stress. Everyone should just try and keep it in check. Many of the topics discussed can rile strong views, but they are, afterall, just opinions. If we don't make it personal then they shouldn't be taken as such.

Dev, is UGB really a standing adversary of yours? Clearly, the lad sincerely wants beef no more. Why not oblige him?

I've never had a civil exchange with UGB. He was one of the people who attacked me for supposedly being "anti-newbie," and he sided with purple hazed when she flipped out and made a new account with which to attack me.
I don't want to "make up" - I want him to ignore me as I ignore him.

I don't want to "make up" - I want him to ignore me as I ignore him.I think this constant drawing of "sides" just fuels the problems, including the legions of people you're at odds with, Dev.
You're most certainly entitled to ignore him, but that's not what you did here. You practically spat at him for some past conflict that never should've happened.
I'm not saying you have to strike up "We Are the World" and give him a hug, but you're not just continuing hostilities...you're spurring them on by being the only person here rebuking the other.
You may want to take your advice and actually ignore people you have beef with in the future. A lot more productive than yet another potential petty bickering bout. Just my unsolicited opinion, Dev.

Micah, that made sense and I hate things that make sense. To paraphrase, you're really jerk. I am now not on your side.

Sorry you feel that way Devin...
I wasn't trying to befriend you or say I wouldn't argue with you anymore, but make an effort not to resort to name-calling in future posts. I don't know you, I never will, all I can retort with is what I'm given in your posts. If I decide that enough merit is given for confrontation, then I should do it in a manner that corresponds with message board parameters. I can’t use personal attacks because I don’t know that Devin, what I can do is debate what you have provided me.
I am sticking to my guns, read here if you desire. Cluttering the boards with mud slinging just brings the place down, if guns are to be drawn then they should be done in a way of civility. There are proper ways to engage an antagonist, and then there are ways to degrade both parties. If I resort to name-calling, I not only reflect badly on the community but also negate the integrity of my posts past, present, and future.
Arguments can be exhilarating and create interesting debate, but not if they are not soiled by pettiness. Here I am Ugly Goblin Boy, the only ammo you have against that entity is that which I have given you. Personal insults are silly and meaningless, leave them at the door and use this opportunity to build your written word.

Just don't respond to my posts or post in my threads. Problem solved.
Ugly Goblin Boy
03-27-2003, 02:32 PM
I can't do that, but I will make an effort to challenge you with respect to your intelligence. I’m not intimidated by confrontation, and all quarrels do not have to end in pettiness. I will respond when desired, but with a degree of integrity deemed appropriate by the community.
Ignore me if you wish, I care not, but do not attempt to suppress my opinions. I don’t post here for the soul purpose of attacking yourself; I do it for laughs, news, and feedback. When the occasion arises that my opinions differ with that of your own I will respond, but only if I can accomplish it respectfully. Otherwise I will do my best to remain silent and swear at my monitor, please do the same.

Devin's moral code of behavior is as twisted as a nest of mating vipers, and about as cuddly. Just ignore him and let him seethe all by his lonesome.

Werewolf Gurl, I appreciate your position on this, but I don't feel I am being ungracious, rather I feel I am being realistic. If someone has a problem with me, the best thing they can do is just ignore me, yet UGB seems to refuse to do that.

They're all useless post forums. I'm thinking of making EVERYONE a mod. Seems like a fun sociology experiment.

Not a bad idea actually. I must compliment you on your site. Even though we don't see eye to eye on most things you are doing what you believe in, and doing a decent job too. It's no CHUD but hey that's not necessarilly a bad thing.
