Holy shit, this was awful. And maybe it's just me, but it seemed like they tried to make a bad movie and were letting you know it throughout the film, those little camera winks. Why? Did Smith think it would be funny to make a terrible movie? I didn't find any satire at all. Shitty, shitty film, not entertaining in the least. Boo Kevin Smith, boo. Not as bad as Deuces Wild, but close.

Randal and some of the other Clerks people are scary in color.

Even though it had one-tenth of the creativity of Dogma, I really enjoyed this movie. As for the in-jokes, I like movies that reward you for watching other movies. The guest appearances by Seann Williams Scott, James Vanderbeek and Jason Biggs were hilarious. Sure it was self-indulgent, but I don't mind it from Kevin Smith, as I admire his fanboy/geek-fantasy-come-true life story. And besides, Jason Mewes makes profanity sound like Shakespeare.

The only real annoyance to me, and this applies to any movie that employs this cliche, is the slow, sideways glace at the camera when a joke has been directed at themselves. Doing this once in a film is obscene, twice is blasphemy.

Naaah I liked it. Not as clever as his previous movies, and his weakest script to date but it was fun. Most of the jokes made me laugh and it was good seeing all the other characters one last time. He just wanted to make another stupid comedy a la Mallrats before moving on to other stuff and he did. Now I'm eager to see what he comes up with next.

Come on....this movie is good, dumb fun. Great lines:

Sure, its not Bergman, but it's no less entertaining than his others. You're fooling yourself if you really think the comedy bar on any of his other films was much higher.

But at least those films were real. They were encased worlds to get involved in. I enjoy all the Smith films. I own them all. But this thing, this in-joke, was mostly a joke on the audience. And it just feels like they wanted to make a really awful movie, like that was the point. And that's just not funny.

As for the winking at the camera, I hate it. If you want a bad joke in your movie, just put the bad joke in your movie and sink or swim with it. Don't put the bad joke in, then have everyone on screen look out into the audience for sympathy over how bad a joke it was, like they are all feeling guilty over being accomplices to it.

I dunno, i had i hopes for this movie but i didn't think it was funny at all.Actually, the funniest thing about it was, I read some of the AICN talkbacks on Monday after it came out, and there was one talkbacker (The Warrior) who was claiming to have coined the phrase "clownshoes." He was pretty happy about it.

It was a fun movie, but releasing such a string of injokes to the theaters seems kinda silly. It should probably have been only on DVD, available online, or given out to members of the Kevin Smith fanclub, like those REM Christmas singles.

This was a movie made by a group of people for a group of people. Half the fun of the movie is seeing all these people do what they love with people they like. How else could you get so MANY actors and industry people to self-parody themselves. This movie is fucking hilarious, the point is, it's not supposed to be a smart comedy, Jason Mewes cusses like poetry, the whole movie is like some druggie 13-year old wrote it, which, you have to admit is how everyone acts at one point in time. It's just really funny. End of story.

I avoided this film for ages, because Jay and Silent Bob were fast becoming an overused comedic crutch for Smith's films (did they really need to be in Chasing Amy?) and the idea of a whole movie based around a series of in-jokes just seemed dumb.

But eventually I got round to watching it, and quite enjoyed it. As a whole, it's a stinkfest, but there were enough choice moments scattered through the filth to paper over the comic-book plot - mostly from the cameos, like Jason Biggs and Dawson sending themselves up ("You're the pie-fucker"), and Good Will Hunting 2: Hunting Season remains the highlight and still makes me chuckle now.

But all in all, it's a couple of genuinely funny sketches crammed into a modern Cheech & Chong movie.

Now, how come nobody has pointed out that this is in the wrong forum yet?

But it didn't need to be them. Banky and Holden's comic could've been based on them, without them showing up. It could have been about anything really. And anyone could've delivered that speech as well. They were in there as an indulgence.

Don't get me wrong, I like Kevin Smith. It's his movie, he can indulge all he likes. I think he has a great ear for dialogue, and he comes across as a really cool guy. Jay and Silent Bob cracked me up in Clerks and Mallrats, but seeing them in Chasing Amy - a film which otherwise showcased a brilliant maturity and emotion unseen in his other work - was like seeing Martin and Lewis turn up to fool around with Sinatra in "The Manchurian Candidate". It just threw the mood of the movie out of whack. For me, anyway.

I think it fit perfectly. They were the comic book characters, they fit the whole "Jersey Trilogy" aspect, and they were there for 10 minutes, unlike their larger roles in the other flicks.

But hey, I love Chasing Amy to death, so I always defend it zealously...

I really liked this movie. I thought it was funny as shit. After watching Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, I rewatched all their films so I could get all the jokes. But you have to understand where Kevin Smith came from. He was a directer who made CLerks, a cheap low budget film, and then he went to films with Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, George Carlin, Shannon Elizibeth and others in them. I love Kevin SMith's films.

This by far is my favorite Kevin Smith movie. I've never really understood the fascination with his flicks. I like them, but in no way consider any of them masterpieces. I feel like they all take themselves too seriously, where in reality, they are just a bunch of dick and fart jokes. The fact that J&SBSB makes fun of all those movies is pure genius to me -- this whole movie is shameless about being one big dick and fart joke!

I've seen this film twice in the theater and numerous times on DVD and it never ceases to make me laugh.
