I really love my Atari. I think its the best system ever. games are simple easy and overall cute. Everyone talks about Playstation 2 Game Cube and X Box. How can you for get the classics. I wish I could still purchase games for it. Anyone feel the same way?

Sure, the Atari games were great and all, but the classics people remember are on the original NES.

I sold my Atari at a garage sale back in '93. All the great games on it I could find on my NES too, so I didn't see the point of having it. I regret it now. I want it back very badly.

I still play mine. I love the wood grain paneling, people say the PS2 looks great, but put the Atari on a coffee table and you're practically Christopher Lowell. I've got about 25 or 30 games, but Yar's Revenge, River Raid, and Ms. Pac Man are my faves. I've also got this one featuring Big Bird wherein he has to catch eggs that drop down these chutes, with the eggs falling faster and faster. Very fun stuff!

Ah, personally, Atari games are my defining historic video game classics. My favorites were Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Combat, E.T., Berserk (rip-off of Frenzy), Warlords. There are lots more.

Anyway, here was a game that I wanted to have when I was 11 (it was in a catalog and I remember staring at that picture for hours):

According to this site, you can download a ROM of it (and of course, you will need an emulator).

Don't have an Atari unit but I have an Atari adapter for my Colecovision. My all time favorite Atari game is Demon Attack.

Truth be told, I never had Atari. I had Colecovision, but I was always mainly a Nintendo kid, partially because i'm too young to have really liked Atari anyhow. I was like, 5 when I got Nintendo.

Remember that commercial? And I loved that game too. I think my favorite Atari 2600 games were Superman, Starmaster, Kaboom! and Pitfall.

I was and kinda am an Atari Master. Back a few years ago when I first got into Ebay, I was fucking crazy insane about filling the void in my collection.

But $300 for Halloween and Texas Chainsaw Massacre is really burtal.

I did however get some real gems like:

Alien - Yep, based on the classic film. Basically it's Alien Pac-Man with Ripley instead of Pac, Aliens instead of ghosts, eggs instead of power pellets, and flame throwers instead of power pills. But for some reason, it's actually BETTER than the 2600 version of Pac itself.

Journey Escape - Nothing screams 80's better than this classic cult hit in which you must lead Steve Perry and his bandmates past angry photographers, horny fans, barricades, and what not so they can escape the planet in the same ship from their classic "Escape" album.

Krull - Words cannot describe how insane this game is. Jumpping over spider webs, dodging laser blasts, challenging the dark lord to a game of breakout. Nuts.

Even picked up Megaforce. Yep, THAT Megaforce. Lost out on Gremlins and Pigs In Space though.

Favs: Pitfall 2: Lost Caverns, Chopper Command, Joust, Empire Strikes Back.

And has anyone EVERY found the damn Lost Ark in the Raiders game?

Didn't think so...

"Steeeeeve Perry. Steve Perry.....STEEEEEEEVE Perry...."

"Dude, I thought we said no more Journey psyche-outs..."

Django: You forgot to mention being chased by Kool-Aid man in the game. I forgot if that was a good thing or a bad thing...guess it depends on the amount of acid you dropped.

Empire Strikes Back.
That game is radical.

Didn't think so...Yep! I did! It took forever, but I finally found it. That was a huge moment in my childhood! Boy, that's sad, isn't it? And my friend and I used to play Chopper Command 'til all hours of the morning when it first came out.

Love the Atari, but the Intellivision will FOREVER be my system of choice. Tron Deadly Discs, Mission X, B-17 Bomber, etc... classics, classics, classics!!

Now that I think about it, it is hard to top the Smurfs on the Colecovision though... :D

I break out the ol' 2600 now and then. I try to beat my old record for Keystone Cops and keep trying to figure out how the hell to play Raiders of the Lost Ark sans instruction booklet.

And DigDug and COMBAT. Man, now I wish I had brought it with me to grad school.

I think I was the only person ever who actually liked the E.T. game. To this day, I don't know why.

It took me 20 years to beat E.T.

So you'll have to excuse my mixed emotions on the subject...

Shit I had something like an Atari (or maybe it was) I remember a racing and bowling game and some others. It was a blast and my brother and I dragged it out from the basement on many of occasions. However it got thrown out quite a while ago.

Anyone know what it is? The game cartriges were black and had a handle on the top. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
