Man, I can't finish this last regular mission to save my goddam life. I've only managed to get to the center of the tootsie-pop about three times, but I can NEVER make it back out before being consumed by the explosion.

Any of you Jedi got some tips for Wedge?

If I could fly this game with my MS Force-Feedback stick I would have been declared Hero of the Galaxy long ago...

Gee, thanks for all the tips, guys. (sulks) I'm taking my ball and bat and going home... (kicks dirt, shuffles off sniffling...)

I don't know if you tried this, or if it was too obvious...but in Rogue Squadron 3D (N64/PC), the best way to pick up speed was to close your S-Foils. Maybe that will work in Rogue Leader. Then again, I could be bantha fodder.

...there is another...

(excerpts found on some faq on the internet pertaining to your mission):

On the surface, the lasers are MUCH more accurate than the first Death
Star and you will take significant damage. Close your S-foils and jink
left and right hard to avoid as much as you can. When you're about to
pass the falcon open your foils and allow it to pass, then the TIEs will
come and you can blast them away. If you pass the falcon too much the
TIEs will eat the falcon alive. When the wave of TIEs is dead, close
your foils and try to avoid the lasers the best you can. After several
waves the mouth of the hole will come on the horizon -- close foils and
rush past the falcon to this entrance, ignoring any TIEs. As soon as you
reach the hole you automatically enter the second part of the level, the
dreaded, tight, claustrophobic tunnels. *shiver*

As soon as you have control, blast the TIEs in front of you and close
foils to get as close to the falcon as possible. Whenever there's a
straight away close your foils, you need to stay as close to the falcon
as you can, this seems to reduce the chances of TIEs coming up to you
and either a) killing you instantly on impact or b) bumping you and
causing you to lose control and slam into a wall or beam or pipe or
something else not so fun.

As soon as you see a TIE come shoot it immediately, if you allow it to
follow the falcon through a bunch of bends and what not then it will get
torn to shreds. If you have homing torpedoes it can help if you're
desperate. Eventually you'll reach the core and the level becomes so
much easier, mainly because there's no more TIEs. Use the targeting
computer to see what part of the core you have to shoot, then do it.
Escaping is actually fairly easy, you don't have to stay behind the
falcon, just boost past it. Don't do anything stupid like slam into the
side of a pipe and the GAME IS OVER!!! Er...or not.

How is the music in Rogue Leader?

Hit and miss. Some missions use the original Williams' score (mp3, I assume) but in several places they use some truly cringe-worthy MIDI. I don't know if they just didn't have room for more digital tracks or what, but lemme tell ya, some of the midi stuff is just annoying.

Thanks for the above tip, Mongy, by the way. I thought I still had to stay behind the Falcon on the way out, so I'll have to try it again this afternoon and see if I can't beat that damn 'splosion...

Well, it was for me, but your mileage may vary.

Oh my god this game kicks ass!!! I'd say it's definitely worth buying Gamecube. It's as true to the Star Wars universe as any Star Wars game ever, and even moreso!

I just finished the first mission, I can't believe how cool it is to hear Obi-Wan go "Use the force, Luke!" and then you blow the Death Star up.

Glad to see another convert! Verbs, make sure you pick up the ship upgrades on each level you play. There is one upgrade (like advanced shields, advanced lasers, etc.) on every level. GameFAQ's is a good website to get a listing of where they are on each map. You have to complete the mission to keep the upgrade. I usually would complete each mission, trying to get the best medal I could, and then go back and do it again just to get the power up and finish as fast as possible, without having to worry about the score. And trust me, you'll NEED those upgrades for subsequent missions... :)

Where the hell is the Rogue Leader 3 thread? After a few searches this is the closest I could find. I'm just curious if anybody has had a chance to play yet.

Picking it up tomorrow, with any luck. Along with Crimson Skies...

By the way, the new one is called Rebel Strike, I think we have a thread or two with that in the title...

Picked up Rebel Strike yesterday. So far I'm pretty much digging it. The on-foot missions have a crappy ass camera and the control is a little floaty...but ya know what...it's still fun running around blasting troopers in a Robotron sorta way. Graphics are outstanding. The flight levels so far are top notch as usual. The on-foot stuff just adds a bit of variety. The opening is hilarious - don't want to spoil it for ya.

The cut scenes rock though...there are tons of clips from the original trilogy that serve as cutscenes between some missions. They are absolutely Widescreen DVD quality. So they serve as a nice preview of the DVD's quality -whenever- they come out.

Sorry if this is the wrong thread...but since impressions were asked for here I dropped it here.
