I KNOW this is very late, but I am not a super gaming geek. I bought this recently for my PC and absolutley LOVE it. Looking forward to the sequel.

A very cool game.. Though without the slo-motion goodness that is Bullet Time, this game wouldn't be as fun..I think this game could make an AWESOME movie with the right director.

A fun game but I thought it was too short.

Overseas sounds cool. Possibly Tokyo or London. Or how about Mexico?

Didn't G.O.D. fold? I don't think a sequel is much of a possibility, though I could be wrong about that.

Buying games when they come out makes you a gaming geek? No.
It makes you a true gamer.
Anyway, this game is on my top ten. Best one-liners ever.

I don't think a sequel is much of a possibility, though I could be wrong about that.GOD is no longer publishing, but all of the developers under them still exist, they just need new publishers for their games. Max Payne's console versions came out through Rockstar. the first one sold fairly well, i wouldn't be surprised if there's a sequel, even if the developer Remedy farms it out to another developer

If God folded, it'd explain a lot about the world today.

My only problem with this game is the choppiness. Sometimes when the camera pans around an enemy who is mid-air due to a well-placed shotgun blast, their head or upper torso seems to go through a nearby wall. They say it took them 2 years to perfect Bullet Time, so why the hell couldn't they have fixed this?

I think a great sequel idea would be a hand-to-hand combat version; make it all kung-fu. A martial-artist with tons of detailed moves having to deal with 6-7 enemies at a time with the bullet-time effect would be rad.

I have to agree with the head through the wall thing, it's very annoying. I don't get why it happens, I know nothing about game physics, but it seems like such a simple problem to fix.
Just got the game for PS2 recently, that's why I've ressurected this baby, and I just wanted to throw my love for it out there. Probably one of the coolest games I've played in a long time, right up there with 'GTA III'.

I love this game. I will mention the choppiness issue also. I was playing through the room where you bust in on Cognitti and his three goons ("Cognitti ran, I decided to go Chow Yun Fat") and two of the goons ended up sticking straight out of a couch. A little kooky, but still fun.
I'm still on Part 1, but I'm loving every minute of it. Probably my second favorite PS2 game, behind GTA3 of course.

I liked the idea, but the execution was terrible. The choppiness has been mentioned, but the way Max moved was painful - lurching over sofas and furniture like he was on a stick. I ended up skipping the story scenes by the end as well, because the dialogue was so bad. It needed more going on, as well. Open door, shoot guys, pick up ammo, open door, shoot guys (in slow motion), pick up ammo...By the end of the game, I was just playing on autopilot. The "nightmare" maze levels deserve a mention as well, for sheer irritation.
The whole game felt to me like the "bullet time" idea had come first, and they'd just quickly built a game around that. I certainly wouldn't put it anywhere near the endless majesty of GTA3. I'd like to see a sequel, but only if they use it as a chance to make some serious changes.

I too thought the "nightmare" levels were innovative, but the second time you run around Max's house after you're injected by the drug(it's name escapes me), every time you die you have to sit through what sounds like a baby screaming for about 10 seconds.. And being as though Max controls like a freakin' tank, this happened to me quite often.. At one point I had to mute the TV because I was geting a migrain from it..

I just used codes for the first nightmare level-- I didn't feel like dealing with that shit, my computer was chugging like a fat guy at a beer-drinking contest. You don't really miss much story-wise if you skip them.
Other than that, it's one of my top ten favorite games ever.

if they decide to take the game anywhere overseas for a sequel, why not hong kong, with john woo as an advisor,to recreate some actual scenes from hard-boiled,the killers, and the like?

I dug Max Payne for about 3 hours, until I realized "this is it?" Yeah, the bullet time was cool, but there was absolutely no variation in gameplay. And what gameplay there was was okay, but after what I'd been expecting, not nearly up to speed. The animation was terrible, Max ran like he had a stick up his ass. The enemy AI ran from impossibly hard to absolutely retarded. Hopefully for the sequel Rockstar (or whoever is developing this) will make an actually game as opposed to a gimmick.

Sweet Jumpin' Jesus on a Pogo stick! Jeff's "Most Annoying Level EVER" Award goes to the drug-induced nightmare level. The one-two punch of the hallways and subsequent bloodwalk with the annoying fucking baby wailing in the background pummels my eyeballs and drains the lifeblood from my veins.
Otherwise, I still like the game. Although I'm not looking forward to taking on a bunch of heavily armed goons with a stupid baseball bat. Any hints on that bit?

Yes, be fast and sneaky.

I've attempted once to take on the first three guys in the hallway to get some guns, but end up getting whacked. There must be one guy by himself somewhere, right? Most of those fuckers have to be carrying Desert Eagles or Ingrams, so if I can get one gun, I'll be fine.

What I do is, run into the hallway real quick to lure a few into the room. Problem is, this lures ALL of them. So in that situation your best bet would be to kill one really fast and get his gun, then cap the others. I had found an easier strategy one time, but it escapes me at this moment.
Whatever strategy you use, though, it's still pretty tough.
