Is this game any good?
I just picked up an X-Bx and am enjoying Ghost Recon and Jet Set Radio Future, but would consider myself an RPG kinda gamer.
This game is used for $29.99. Is it any good? Many of the reviews champion the scope and graphics - but friends have told me it's way too open-ended. What exactly does that mean. Is the game impossible to defeat? Is it like Everquest?
How does the game play operate.
Serious RPG fan needs help here chewers!

It's good, but in a bad way. There's just so much to do that it becomes overwhelming. It's just too damn big.
But you'd get your money's worth, for sure, where gameplay is concerned.

That sounds great but once I started playing it, I was just like..............I have this huge world now what do I want to do first? The problem is since the game is so open they have left little in the way of an involving story line, so while you have this huge world to explore, I could give two shits about exploring it because I wasn't given a reason to. Give me my Final Fantasy or Shenmue anyday.

It's pretty good and I'd say its worth the 29.99.

I agree with all the previous posts here. I found it very good, but it is a very big world to explore. Many a guilds can you join, a multitude of quest exist. There is a main storyline that you can follow with ease but there is no time limitation in which you have to do the main quests.
Character creation is awesome as you may customize as much or as little of your character when first creating him/her.
I'm presently playing a Female dark elf with a custom class.
My primary skills are: Long blade, destruction, heavy armor, restoration, and the magic school that permits you to imprison beast into soul crystals.
My secondary skills are: Merchandising, speech craft, acrobatic, the other physical skill? and shield.
Essentially you have a huge world to explore and to interact with, I personally love it. But I might suggest you find the Morrowind guidebook that details maps and important people of the realm I found it helpful.
Cheers!

had it for a couple of months, but then, as everyone said... it's just too damn big. traded it in because of it. if it's your cup of tea, it's awesome. it's a solid game, but huge.

Have it. Can't get the sound set up right .... over-bearing effects, indistinguishable dialogue....
Haven't spent enough time to fix it.

if you don't mind archaic graphics and some nasty bugs, there's always Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall. I still haven't played Morrowind (don't have an XBOX and my pc will certainly not run it), but I loved the Elder Scrolls: Redguard game. great story, I thought.
as for other open ended games like that... not sure.

Yeah, the game is just too damn long, and now they have an expansion pack to it. Jeez! It can use a few more monsters as well.
After 6 months I'm a 40th level fighter-mage of the Breton class, and I have the Dwarven Crossbow and the Proximity arrows ( a downloadable mod ) and I always sell off the Dremora weapons for gold, and pay to go up in level.
The game also seems to suffer from some sort of right wing morality, as I noticed that you cannot soul trap and of the human or elven characters, only the monsters. And when Winged Twilights die, they lay face down so you can't see any of their obvious assets wink
Oh well, other than that, what can I say, it's the biggest and longest game out there. You won't beat this overnight.....
