What do you think will make it to the next generation between the GC, X-Box, and PS2? I think the PS2 is a given, but the real race is between Nintendo and Microsoft. On one hand, Nintendo has been around for ages, and they are very strong in the market as a whole, especially with the young'uns. On the other, Bill Gates wants to own the world, and he has bottomless pockets. I would say Nintendo if it weren't for Mr. Gates, but what do you think?

Gee, I dunno: Microsoft is dedicated to ruling the console market so fat chance they'll leave and Nintendo, is well, Nintendo. I doubt any will really die this generation.

I think Nintendo and Microsoft will be left fighting over second place for so long (as I think both systems are equally weak right now), and time will pass by, and before you know it, Sony will launch a whole new system in their faces.

Microsoft has said that just like Sony is already hard at work on PS3 they are working on Xbox 2 as they will not spot Sony another years head start in the market.

I'm hearing more and more that Nintendo will go the way of Sega and do strictly software leaving the console market altogether. If this happens it makes for some interesting scenarios. What if Nintendo gives up hardware and only develops Nintendo properties for a Microsoft system?

I'm so sick of these debates. For christ's sake, use the search function.

Of course then you look at Nintendo's strangle hold of the hand held market, plus the Pokemon franchise which is basically a license to print money...

Is Nintendo working on the Gamecube 2 yet (or whatever it will be called?)

2005: Nintendo leaves console market, focuses on software a la Sega.

Microsoft has money to throw around, so they'll stick around for the long run (plus the facts already stated here by Dennis.)

Sony dominates, and doesn't leave the top spot for the foreseable future.

The survivor will be a fake Playstation 3 that only plays games on vinyl.
