My favorite local place is Jerry's Video Rerun on Franklin and Hillhurst in Los Feliz. Not only do they have tons of great shit, but it's run by nice old people who are always up for spending a half hour discussing who was the best Dracula.
I sometimest go to Mondo Video A-Go-Go on Vermont, they have the weirdest stuff but I usually avoid it because A) there's no parking and B) the guys that work there are fucking obnoxious.

It pains to admit, I rent most often from Blockbuster. Even though I hate them.
It's because I get a free rental almost every time I go in there. 4 movies for 5 days for 10 bucks is about what they ought to cost. I'm a Gold Member (!) so the only days I don't get freebies are Sat and Sun.
Never been to Jerry's or Mondo, though that's basically my neighborhood. There's that 20/20 on Glendale Blvd as well, but I am not a member there either.
I am strongly considering doing the Netflix thing instead.

I rent the major new releases from Blockbuster alot, I live in Eagle Rock so I don't like to drive out to Los Feliz during the week. It's funny, I lived in Athens, GA for 6 years and went to Blockbuster exactly one time (they had a copy of The Loved One), but I move to Movieland and now I rent from Blockbuster all the time. There aren't any decent indy stores in my neighborhood.
I've started going to Wherehouse, because they have $1 rentals, so even if I keep something for days it ends up being cheaper than Blockbuster.

I don't rent. The chains and Mom/Pop stores don't carry the level of sick, bizzare shit I enjoy buying at Best Buy on a weekly basis...

J-Wave in Little Tokyo for the porn and the weekly variety shows.
HK Video in La Crescenta for Korean titles and dramas.
Netflix for everything else.

Hollywood Video.
But that might be just because my friend gets me the movies for free.
