Looks like I'll be attending E3 this year, which means I'll once again be raping the Los Angeles area with my barbed penis of death. Metaphorically speaking.
Naturally, this leads to three questions:
1. Does anyone have any recommendations for a decent, affordable hotel?
2. Is anyone else going to be at the show?
3. Do any LA Chewers fancy being mortally offended over drinks and food by a crass and hairy Englishman?

1. I'm not sure about hotels. You need to be near downtown? Is your company paying for the hotel?
2. Not going to E3, not a big gamer
3. Sure

Stay where Garth Franklin always stays - the Orchid Suites in Hollywood. http://www.orchidsuites.com/
Not sure how many people are in your party (and I'm way out in the Valley), but you could just crash at my place in Sherman Oaks if I'm in town and around. I may be going to E3, but am really not sure. I typically go for about five minutes.

I'd tag along with you, but they banned my ass after the little Nintendo/Lucasarts business back in 1999...

It'd be cool to hook up though if you're about.

There was a big scrum around the Lucasarts stand (the one with the giant Pod Racer hanging from the ceiling) and while shuffling to see what the heck was going on, I smacked my elbow into something behind me. Just then, a bunch of security guys came bundling past with the guest of honor - and I realised I'd just elbowed Jake Lloyd in the head. Midichlorians, my ass. He didn't see that one coming.

And with that you have overtaken my infamous story. All I did was break his "record" time.
You actually beat his ass...

Two more words: Park Hyatt (Century City on Avenue of the Stars).
Actually, if you're downtown and you want to be close to E3, I'd totally say to stay at the Standard downtown at 550 South Flower Street. Nice place, dead downtown, fairly modern hotel.
The Century Plaza and the St. Regis also in Century City are both nice, fuck the W, fuck the Regent Beverly Wilshire, but if you want a nice, smaller hotel off the beaten path that's really, really nice, but not part of the hustle and bustle of the Century City hotels, I totally recommend the L'Ermitage at 9291 Burton Way (it's really cool - this French/Japanese-style hotel with big rooms and cool wood-paneling).

Thanks for all those suggestions - I'll fire 'em off to the person doing the booking. Last time I was in town for E3 I stayed at the Hyatt on Sunset which wasn't nearly as rock and roll as it's reputation.

More info than I ever needed to know. Although fucking on the balcony overlooking Sunset Strip was a blast.

- and I realised I'd just elbowed Jake Lloyd in the head. Well, it'd be pretty hard not to hit his head--it's like three feet in diameter...
