View Full Version : Anyone interested in a little batting practice on Sunday?
Nick Nunziata

Howdy, weather permitting... Steve and I are going to enter the fresh Roswell/Alpharetta air and get a little batting/fielding/throwing practice.
Any local folks want to join. Mostly softball but maybe a few baseballs lobbed in there.
Monday morning's also an option, since it's a holiday. I guess that'll be determined by if anyone's interested and which day's easier.

You guys should try curling instead.

Considering who posts around here, this could become the biggest forum!

Notice Nick didn't call this the Atlanta Culture forum.
Nick Nunziata

I knew I wouldn't be able to win regardless. I knew everyone BUT the Atlanta people would respond. Well, FUCK YA!
I'm going to put screening stuff, coffee stuff, and all that here so as not to disrupt the other forums, which are already inundated with threads that could fit elsewhere.
There I was thinking that maybe... just maybe, the responses to a thread like this would be ACTUAL INTERESTED PARTIES.

The more I think about this the more I agree with the people who bash these boards.

I feel like this is a legitimate observation.. I certainly hope you weren't talking about me.

Elaborate.

It seems that many - a great many - of the posters on this board are Atlanta based, or in the surrounding area - within 3 hours drive. The kind of distance that makes a weekend visit on the spur of the moment make sense.
Since so many people are, in my educated guess, in the area, this forum could be relevant to many many people.

Well, people with MUCHO posts like Will, Django, HAM, you, and more aren't based here...
It's just that CHUD's built a nice Atlanta following and I hate sticking ATL stuff elsewhere.
It's my goal to have a section for a variety of cities once I launch the upgraded boards (with separate sports and music and video games sections) for people to post regional stuff.
That said, I fully expected comments to accompany this thread.
Also, I'm going to create a forum to discuss individual films like recent threads devoted to Sneakers, Buckaroo Banzai, and Bob Roberts and Bowfinger.
The CHUD Sewer is diluted enough.

What is your vision of what should be in the main Sewer?

If it helps, I'll post here just to make you more comfortable...

Ideally it'll be like the meeting place, a place for the typical debates about box office and random shit and about films that just came and and stuff.
I just feel that if someone starts a thread with something to the effect of "Octopussy's Bitchin'" or whatever, it bumps down threads that should be near the top.
I think we need a different place to discuss older movies.
Django

That would be cool.
Course so would a "over 3000" club...

I'd like to be the first ATL person (besides Nick) to post here...I would love to do BP on Sunday, but I'd have to do it early...we're heading downtown for the evening at like 4:30 Sunday afternoon.
And I actually can do it Monday morning as well, since I'm taking Monday off.

Sunday or Monday work for me. Can I pitch?
Steve Murphy
01-18-2002, 04:19 PM
Buddy, if you want to pitch, you'll get no argument from me. In fact, there's an outstanding court order that prohibits me from even walking across the pitching mound, I'm that good at it.
Martianman

I can pitch as well, if/when his arm gets tired. I also play catcher, and 1st base. Just no outfield. I have a problem with the judgement of fly balls (they're so small you know--ha ha ha).

Good decision here, Nick. This will allow me to possibly attend a future CHUD gathering with a little more notice. I think we should have a CHUD convention in the summer sometime. Whaddya think?

It's been pouring here all day, so I'll assume no BP on Sunday. Let me know if Monday will still work.

Any thought to starting a CHUD baseball/softball league?

Alright, the weather is clearing up nice.
I don't know if we should do the park over here (NEWTOWN PARK), North Park (Cogburn Rd.) or another.
I think the earlier we start the better.
What says you?
Martianman

I've got a doctor's appt. at 9:00 on Old Milton, but should be done by 9:30. I know where North Park is, but don't know where Newton Park is. I need time to grab something to eat, then I'll be there. Tell me place and time.

Earlier is fine with me. I have never been on the Newtown fields, but I do know where they are. Do they drain better than Northpark. I know the fields there can be really bad even with a day to dry out. Which one has the greater possibility of being locked up?
Nick Nunziata
01-20-2002, 06:45 PM
Dunno. Newtown is never locked, I believe and is right at the end of Haynes Bridge Rd across from the fire dept. On the Old Alabama side.
North Park MAY be locked but I doubt it.
Either way, either one at 11:00am.

I vote for Newtown.

NEWTOWN IT IS.

Is it too late for me to say "maybe"? I think I'll be up and out and wanting to do something by that time of day. http://www.chud.com/board/ubbhtml/smile.gif Where exactly is Newtown Park?
Slow pitch, right? I never was brave enough/ good enough/ butch enough ( http://www.chud.com/board/ubbhtml/wink.gif) to get into fast pitch.

It's at the intersection of Haynes Bridge and Old Alabama. Take Holcomb Bridge RD. towards the Harvest Moon but take a left onto Old Alabama RD. shortly after you cross 400.
The road will end at a light (gas station on your right). Take a left. This is still technically Old Alabama Rd. Once you pass the shopping center with the Hollywood Video on the right, the park is on your right.

I know it's wetter than Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio before Ed Harris' CPR, but I don't mind getting muddy if you guys don't. Steve's alreafy here and if you guys don'y mind soiling the ol' clothes we'll still give it a college try.

http://www.chud.com/board/ubbhtml/frown.gif I thought you'd cancel it cos of the extreme amounts of mudd. Plus it would seem that 10 hours of sleep wasn't enough for me- I didn't wake up until 11! Darn. Mudd is fun, too, as long as you don't get it in your mouth.
maybe next time.

Sorry I had to bail early. Had fun though. Maybe I'll be able to hit a little better next time.

You missed the really entertaining part: Me trying to hit a baseball.
Nick, those had to be little league balls.

Couldn't have been any worse than if I had tried. I haven't tried to hit a baseball in like 20 years.

there'll be more as our 1st baseman and potentially more will be there too. I bought one new softball today for fun.

Maybe me and possibly the Suitt crew. I'm heading to a friend's house at 12:00 to watch the AFC Champ. game, so I'll be there for about and hour and a half. At Newtown Park again, I'm assuming?
