AOL is "merging" (read: controls...AOL's CEO is president, TW's is VP) with Time Warner.
Argh.
AOL, who wants to be the internet (best way to describe why AOL is not the internet as they claim: AOL is Epcot. It represents the world, but IT IS NOT THE WORLD), is taking over a good company who is a leader in home cable internet access.
Even if you've never used AOL, even if you've never used their disks for anything except frisbees and coffee table coasters, even if you think you don't like them...ask any tech support analyst what AOL software does to the communications ability of a computer *shudder* The Borg is real, ladies & gentleman.
You basically have to reformat your hard drive to remove these people from your computer.

Although, in all fairness, when AOL bought netscape, I saw little change...yet.

Yeah....and they're more symptoms of the problem than causes. Fact is, EVERYTHING is consolidating. In about thirty years, they'll be three, maybe four cable/telephone companies that will help us download music and movies to every TV and stereo in our house. So, you'll get a bill from AOL Time Warner Sprint MCI Worldcom, and pay for everything on it. Hopefully, these polyglots will begin shortening their name at some point, tho......

Yippie, I can't wait till the day comes where I have to decline 5 different "Special AOL member offers" everytime I turn my stereo on.

Sam Donaldson: Time Warner Vice Chairman Ted Turner
described his positive vote for the merger in histypical colorful fashion:
Ted Turner: I did it with as much or more excitement
and enthusiasm as I did on that night when I firstmade love some 42 years ago.
Sam Donaldson: Mr Turner is at the moment 61 years o***e.
Thanks, Ted. Nice to know screwing the rest of the world by letting AOL take over makes you feel young again.

Anyone else notice the trend we are on is somewhat close to the media controlled "dark age" futre cast in most movies?
Ill start with the emediate futre.
OCP from Robocop.
Clamp from Grimlins2.
(brain ceases to function)
Ok now that I totaly blew that thought...
Futre:
Cyborg (vandam movie)
(brain starts oozeing out ears)
DJ save me. I had a good thought out convo here but al that surge I drank lastnight seems to have escalated my brain cancer.

Massage your temples and pretend you're me. Don't be afraid of the thoughts that enter your mind. They won't hurt you.

I'm not sure how this makes me feel. I work for a big 'ol ISP that is not AOL and everyone in management is walking around with this plastic smile on their faces and a sickening shine glazing their eyes saying: 'It's not a big deal...everything is okay...it's not a big deal...everything is okay...it's not a...ad infinitum.'
So, I am, in all actuality, scared for my physical safety at this very moment.

This is a great coup for both companies. It'll give Time Warner a HUGE edge online over their rivals at Fox/News Corp., and now AOL finally has the big broadband foot in the door they need to run the cable modem industry. Which is exactly why I am getting DSL service instead.

Stocks change, the rich get richer, the poor get poorer. Social Darwinism wins the game.

Of course, stock is going down in BOTH companies as I post this.

Once AOL gets a foothold in the cable-modem industry that is secure enough to boot out up and coming competitors, we all may as well move to the hills and live in DJEvil's PornoBunker.
But enough about big business, which we all have to deal with enough daily, let's move on to topics that we're NOT paid to think about, but are in the end their own reward:
Anyone care to comment on Famke Janssen's tits?

Any discussion on breasts must relocate to the BREASTS post on the Creature Corner Killing board!

Sorry, it's just such an all-encompassing topic that I thought it spanned the mere convention that we know as "boards".

Hmmm, my porno bunker and Famke Janssen's tits.
I gotta tell ya, the two are closer related than ya think. http://www.chud.com/board/ubbhtml/smile.gif
