I hadn't watched Billy Madison for a long time until I got the DVD for Christmas, and for some reason it seemed much funnier than his newer movies, but was never nearly as popular. Why the hell not? That's not rhetorical either, I wanna know why the hell not!?

He screwed up. He only sold his soul to a minor demon who passed himself off as Satan in an effort to garner more souls for himself.

Honestly, I think it's just because Billy Madison was sillier than the others. The mainstream public doesn't handle "silly" too well. Look at Jan DeBont.

Go ahead. Look. He's forever frozen in the corner of my room.

Happy Gilmore is the high water mark of his career. He doesn't have the range to go into Jim Carrey or even Ben Stiller territory.
And his comedy's rancid.

Because people were smarter then. Unfortunately, the intelligence level of the masses has been lowering each year as more and more stupid people go to the movies. In a few years, Adam Sandler will be making movies like "B.M. a True Story" and "How to Make a Million with Body Fluids" and grossing millions while grossing millions out.

Adam Sandler has been absent for some time, where has the antichrist gone?

He had more edge then. The film more closely resembled his early comedy albums. Later he tried to become a bit more of the straight laced star with "Wedding Singer" and "Big Daddy". But he made a big misstep with "Little Nicky". Like, "Last Action Hero" big. Out

Adam Sandler's movies are only funny when he plays an obnoxious prick (i.e. Billy Madison & Happy Gilmore). Everything else he's done has been weak and generally unfunny.
And Little Nicky was just unbelievably bad. I'm wondering if everybody else involved with the movie knew it was going to be shit when they were making it, but were just afraid to tell Adam what they really thought. What was the studio thinking when they let him use that speech impediment for the entire movie? That wouldn't have even been funny in a 5 minute SNL skit.
I think Adam was starting to believe his own hype at the time and thought he could do no wrong. Hopefully, Little Nicky's failure has brought him back down to earth.
I really don't look forward to his upcoming movies anymore, but I have to say I'm curious about his project with P.T. Anderson. Although I have no idea why the guy who directed Boogie Nights and Magnolia has decided to slum it and work on a small romantic comedy with Sandler. Sounds like it could potentially be a waste of talent.

I think Last Action Hero sucked hog balls.
I also think that if Schwarzeneggar had just made a balls to the wall Jack Slater action-comedy cop flick, it would've rocked. So I guess I'm just weird.
Speaking of Ah-nuld (and I was) I caught Hercules in New York on AMC about a month ago, and it had what I can only assume is the original audio track-- the big guy's voice wasn't dubbed. And you know, his accent really wasn't =that= much worse than it is now.

I love Happy Gilmore. It isn't Dr. Strangelove or anything, but it's still funny nonetheless. As for Billy Madison, it's a piece of crap, but it's funny. Everyone I know quotes that movie at work and school all the time (though, to be honest, most of the people that I know who are obsessed with Bill Madison are total idiots). Sandler needs to get his shit together and produce something good. His albums are classics (find a person who doesn't love "Piece of Shit Car", I dare you) but Stan and Judy's kid kind of sucked. He needs to go back to being silly, stupid, and crude instead of trying to be (and failing at being) charming, cute, and warm. What was with Little Nicky? Who's crap idea was that? Oh, and Sandler, STOP PRODUCING ROD SCHIDDER MOVIES! He's funny IN SANDLER MOVIES, not in his own. Duece Bigalow had its funny parts, but please Sandler, go back to what your good at (acting like a total buffoon).
