Ever see a sci-fi movie where the special effects was the movie and a good one at that? Well I did. I recently purchased a VHS version of 'SuperNova'. I had planned to see it in the theater. Three weeks after it opened, it vanashed.
I searched bargain discount theaters and video rental stores to no avail. I could not, for the life of anyone, figure out what happened to it. So I thought I would wait for it to appear in the video rental stores.
Three months later, no SuperNova. Six months past, then seven and eight. It finally arrived by the end of the eighth month?
For a movie to disappear in that short period of time, I should have realized something was wrong. Simular to the following:
a. Take away all the unnecessary nudity and sex scenes. Presto, a feature film of Forty-Five minutes.
b. They should have used the cartoon as the actual trailer. That way I could have been a little surprised. Instead I was gretly surprized.
c. The movie could have been turned into a television episode. But it pushes your imagination past the boundries of the Outer Limits.
d. I had to use the freeze frame mode on the VCR to enjoy the artwork of the shuttle leaving the ship to search for fuel.
e. When I stood up to go and get some popcorn, I realized I had a sailor's stance. (Courtesy of the cameramen.)
f. I also suffered from some sort of DDT (Dementia of Dimensional Travel), during a scene where the Doctor was talking to the Captian about having a child. Her lips moved as if they had a mind of their own. While her words were saying something else. (Courtesy of the film editor.)
But it was the special effects that helped in sitting through SuperNova.
That was one of the reasons why I bought the movie. The other was due to the exterior and interior design of the spaceship.
I'm sure there's more movies out there, where special effects is the star.
Does anyone else know of any?
Oh Yeah... This movie really has the potential for a sequal. http://www.chud.com/board/ubbhtml/cool.gif
