Chronic is classic, and Kirby obviously has knowledge of the genre because he also took Paul's Boutique.

Agreed, The Chronic rules. Not as much as his stuff with NWA, but still cool.

Daydream Nation! Damn. There was an album just on the periphery that I knew I was gonna want, and I couldn't figure out what it was for the past couple days. That was the one.

Nice choice, forklift.

By the way, how does Singles stand up to Bleed American and Clarity? I borrowed Static Prevails a while back, but didn't care for it as much.

Good to see Crowded House represented, too, Mark. Might not be the last time...

Also glad to see I wasn't the only one to break a self-imposed no-more-than-one-artist rule for the sake of some extra Mould, Kev. Well done.

Any Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy fans.

Their one decent album was damn decent.

Sweet, The Crue.

Forklift81

I took Singles over Clarity just because it has more variety. If you like Clarity you should enjoy at least half of it, but it does have a lot of really fast stuff. I think it all sounds good, didn't blow me away at first but it really grew. I'd recommend grabbing a few tracks from it and seeing for yourself, but I have a feeling you'd like it.

I could have sworn that someone had taken some Crue already, and that's why I hadn't picked anything by them yet. But after further review, I couldn't find it on any lists from the current draft or previous draft. So Shout on!

And no love for The Time? I figured with the mention for Morris and company in the Jay and Silent Bob movie, they might have gotten picked already. Prince said once that they were the only band he was legitmately afraid of (how successful they would be).

Nice to see PJ getting so much love.

Singles actually has my favorite Jimmy Eat World song. It's called "What I Would Say To You Now" and it was originally released on a split 7" with Je-June. I wore that little record out listening to that song..

The worst parts of Oakland aren't a tenth as scary as the best parts of Newark. I've lived in both. I know of which I speak.

Of course, that's quite irrelevant to the matter at hand, which is that, from the perspective of music, nothing Dre or any other West Coast hip-hop star has ever done can even begin to match the either the musical or lyrical innovations of the likes of Tribe, Eric B and Rakim, Wu Tang, the Roots, Leaders of the New School, Nas, Brand Nubian, or any of a whole host of others I could rattle off.

Anything at all that was good about Chronic was pilfered from the P-Funk, which is why I say the fact that George Clinton received no love until I took One Nation Under a Groove in the second round of this second draft is a far bigger travesty than skipping over a poseur like Dre, the man who, only four years before releasing an album called "The Chronic" was bragging that he "don't smoke buddha or cess/cuz it's known to give a brotha brain damage."

All about the Benjamins, indeed.

Neil, I might have snatched up 'Workbook' if you hadn't, but I always think of 'Black Sheets of Rain' and 'Workbook' as kind of a yin/yang. So either is good in my list, just as long as I get to have one. Speaking of the one artist per draft rule, I've also been trying not to break it. But it has been tough.

Forklift81

Pharcyde, NWA, Snoop, and Pac. West siiiiiide!

What do you got? Tribe, Epmd, De La Soul, Eric B. and Rakim... damn...

Fine, you win. As a fan of the oldschool I can't deny the obvious talent coming out of New York.

But the Pharcyde are still my favorite rappers of all time.

Yeah, they're nice companion pieces. Also, for some reason, Black Sheets is the ONE CD in my entire collection that will simply not play in my discman. It's scratchless, too, so I can only determine that the music's just too damn heavy for the laser to pick it up.

Looks like Singles will have to be a purchase.

And, Rath, I think I may be the only other person in the draft who totally digs that Hole album. Say what you will about Courtney the person, Celebrity Skin just rocks (be it more hers, Eric Erlandson's, Melissa Auf Der Maur's, or Billy Corgan's credit to take).

I have a question about rules, well two questions:

1) Are EPs elligable

2) And what about concerts like Farm Aid or the Rock Hall with various artists?

They have modified the site. I listened to it the other day, but didn't notice any commercials, other than the stuff that runs on the site screens. I post in the chat room there as jedirocker.

Come on, I had to bust a joke on that pick. I mean the brown-nosing factor alone demands some ribbing. And I'm sure Package is sweet, but when Hendrix's Axis: Bold as Love gets skipped for it, things are a little crazy, you know what I mean?

And on the heels of the brown-nosing comments, Nick, Naked City just rules. That came really close to being on my list.

Radio by Zorn and Naked City is also really good, but not quite as solid as the debut.

Nick Nunziata

My friend Bert and I rode the train from Atlanta to New York (17 hours) listening to Naked City and playing linked Tetris on our gameboys (was 1989)...

We onlt took breaks to eat and shoot a "Murder on the Orient Express" film with my video camera...

Which had to come to an end when we videotaped a huge scary guy who insisted we leave the dining car. We believed he may have been wanted. Spooky.

Regardless, when I saw that Zorn was producing the debut Mr. Bungle album I knew all was right in the world.

I did the same thing with my #10 pick. I put it up, thinking that no one would come close to picking it, then checked the lists, and surprise! It was chosen in the first round (it was Charlie Daniels Band-Decade of Hits, BTW).

There was this band, once, called "Quack Zookeeper". They existed only in my mind. However, they did record a whole tape worth of stuff in real life, but the bass player and drummer of my band, decided to call it "Fuck Nazis". I need to track down Kurt Stein (it was his studio and tape machine) and get it. It was pretty amazing stuff. I played lead guitar, Anita Oye (a total babe, whose sister dated Chrisopher Boyce) was the bass player, and Kurt played drums. God, I wish I had that tape.

I recorded some good solo stuff a few years later, but that tape was the stuff of legends. Damn.

Oops, I forgot my point.
There is more good music that only a few hear than any of the mass market consumption stuff that gets airplay and record deals. I am so glad all of you posted stuff I've never heard, as it gives me somthing to both look forward to, and seek.
