I think I'm enjoying the movie draft more than the harem draft. But I like the pictures from the harem draft more.

Nick Nunziata

I agree on both points. No chick can compete with THE THING.

U2Shark, you just maybe made my 3rd round decision for me. It was between Pee-Wee and one other film, and that film only needs to last a few more short picks...

Poxy Von Sinister

Anybody notice how the draft just seems to die off this time of night? It's pretty consistent throughout the day, but at night, pfffft.

I'm all for starting the 3rd round. But that's only because by the time I get into work tomorrow (7 my time) we'll probably have gone 5 picks past me already.

I am just so totally heartbroken that I didn't get The Thing. Ah well. There's still The Fog ... right? RIGHT??? ... Mrs. Cobritz?

Poxy Von Sinister
02-21-2001, 10:12 AM
Man, I am having a hell of time deciding on my Round 3 pick! There's one I'm leaning towards because I'm stunned it's still out there, but the other two could go at any time, especially with some of the twists this thing has taken. I may have to roll a d6....

well that's because people work in the day and are forced to sit in front of a computer for 8 hours or so. After that, I do not even want to look at a computer screen until the next day.

trippingbillie41

I, too, am having a difficult time choosing my third round pick. I'll wait to see how the round progresses. hopefully, that will guide me to the prudent choice. I'll use the Force or something.

Poxy Von Sinister
02-21-2001, 12:49 PM
Well, it was a tough call, but I just couldn't see Road Warrior lasting through this round. Hopefully the other two are obscure enough to last for me.

And Devilf, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who was ready to jump all over Round 3!

Well, Nick would have to confirm, but by his words: "Anyone who has not yet drafted at the end of round two will be taken off the draft for expediency," it would mean that

17. Willko
40. Fallen Angel

neither whom have drafted at all yet, would be gone.

i actually made the tough decision between Silence and Buckaroo. didn't think either would last this long, actually

Django
02-21-2001, 03:56 PM
I prayed that Banzai would last until round numero-three-o as it was the second bill to Last Starfighter on many summer afternoons as I grew up. What can I say, 1984-1986 was just a magical time to be a kid.

If I had picked Aliens as my first choice, then so far I really would have the movies that truly mean the most to me.

Only two more semi-big ones till I begin taking those 1 star not so classics...

We at Chud ruined it for all?

Cosmic Ray
02-22-2001, 02:30 AM
Small quibble, but I wanted to bring it up. I really like the strategy of posting ahead of time who is up, and when. I don't have an unlimited amount of time to check in here, so it helps me plan out when I should try to be at my computer, or know whether I should email a pick to someone ahead of time.

But since I think I'm picking dead last in this draft, it seems as we get toward the end of each round, people start getting antsy and that protocol is dropped. Through two rounds, I've twice waited out to see if a time would be posted for me, or for my "group" of posters near the end of the round. That hasn't happened either time, and the next time I check back, I find that the next round has already started.

So, I just wanted to post the small request that, ya know, if I could get some kind of window in advance from whomever, it would help out a lot.

Thanks.

Micah Robinson
02-22-2001, 02:42 AM
Ray, I like it as well, but people here seem to have mixed feelings on it and the notion that it sucks the fun out of the draft. Yet, when we don't constantly nudge the draft along as such, it drags because people are either not here or don't know when to go ro who is next.

Take your case up with Nick and see what he says. He's the draft overlord. http://www.chud.com/board/ubbhtml/smile.gif

Just draft out of turn, thats what Nick does.

I would have drafted the Crow if I would have remembered. It makes a much neater replacement for Road Warrior than Lock Stock, even though they are both cool. Anyway, my list of real movies is depleted, so I think I will start drafting animated movies... YOU WILL NEVER GUESS WHICH ONES, DONT TRY TO STOP ME!

I was thinking that maybe an intermission after Round 5 would be a good idea. I feel a little draft stir crazy, like I need a break from it. I don't know if I'm alone. Maybe we could just chill for a week or two and check out our choices and think about what we want to do before we get into the second half of the draft. Maybe the break will help us get more trades happening in this draft.

And it's not like we need to be in a rush to finish this. The fun should be in the journey, not the end result.

Forklift81
02-26-2001, 03:01 AM

02-26-2001, 10:08 AM
My fear is that if we stop for a week or two, we'll lose more people than we have already.

It's a shame we can't do this like the fantasy football drafts, with everyone on at one time and drafting on a clock. It's very unwieldy for a group like this, but the NFL one I did was blast.

Opposed to Adam's cool Deniro motif, I set up my own rule to not have any double directors or double leading actors. Anyone else have any parameters they are following?

It makes for some tough choices. For me, since I took Hoosiers, I can't take another Gene Hackman starring flick that I love.

Innocent X
02-26-2001, 12:38 PM
That is a better idea dev.

I totally agree.

Poxy Von Sinister
02-26-2001, 12:41 PM
I'm not following any scheme really. I knew I wanted Empire, and with the #2 spot I was pretty sure I'd get it. Then, I used my Drop The Remote Test -- movies that if I'm flipping around on TV and come across, I drop the remote and watch, regardless of how far into the movie I find it. Of course, lots of applicable movies got snaked away from me, but I have to say that CE3K was the last one I was really worried about someone else getting.

trippingbillie41
02-26-2001, 01:12 PM
The strategery I'm employing is as follows: grab as many movies that really mean something to me as I can (i.e. Jedi, Bill+Ted, Labyrinth), next I'll follow up with a movie that stars my favorite actor, or by a favorite director. I'm also trying to grab more than one genre, but I'm not sure how that will work out in the end. Variety is the spice of life, eh.

devilf
02-26-2001, 01:15 PM
I wanted to make sure that I got some GREAT movies on my list, as well as a couple that I knew could come in handy for a trade later. Now I'm fulfilling my own needs as a cinejunkie.

Carl Cunningham
02-27-2001, 11:54 AM
My "strategy" is simple. I have a running list of my Top 100 films of all time (always in flux). I have said list as my draft depth chart. Easy enough. Screw patterns. The only time I deviate is when it looks like I can let something slide for another round or two in order to get something more popular.

Innocent, have you seen MEMENTO already? Not a smart ass comment, but a sincere question because I know there are already bootleg copies out there. I just thought it odd someone would draft a film they haven't seen yet in the 5th round. But to each his own...

Carl Cunningham
02-27-2001, 12:53 PM
That's cool. Makes sense. After all, a film with buzz that good is likely to get drafted at some point. I just was curious as whether you'd seen it because it's still pretty early in the draft.

Spacehunter. Nice Patrick. I'll never forget that film. ROTJ was sold out so I went and saw Spacehunter. In 3D no less.
