Here we go.

Crap.

I type some long reply only to find out the thread was closed by typing it.

Here are some highlights of my brilliant reply:

- Not gonna be here tomorrow.
- None of you bastards better pick THE FLINSTONES IN VIVA ROCK VEGAS, or I'll beat your ass.
- Django Does Dallas.

Later...

Imperator, you may go at 11 if you're able. Dave, 12.

Folks, email me your picks if you can't make it. Make sure the subject lien is DRAFT so I can discern it from the wheat and chaff.

Doesn't it kinda make twisted sense for someone named A-Pathetic not have gone yet?

I'm #22 in the order. I'll check the draft again at 8:00 a.m. (Eastern) tomorrow. If I'm not up I'll email you (Nick) my first pick and a couple of alternatives.

Poxy Von Sinister
02-16-2001, 07:50 AM
Okay this is a little ridiculous. 12 hours later and only THREE picks?? Where'd everybody go?

I hate to be curmudgeonly, but for the first round, shouldn't we be sticking a little more strictly to the order? otherwise what's the point? the first round is when the most wanted movies get snatched up (such as Raiders of the Lost Ark, a first choice which was taken by someone AFTER me on the list). use the "lightning" method in other rounds, but let's allow people a little time to get their first pick in.

Nick Nunziata
02-16-2001, 08:53 AM
Well, I thought people would come out of the gate chomping. Anyway, I've stressed over this thing TOO much over the past few days. Draft and let's move forward.

Nick Nunziata
02-16-2001, 09:14 AM
So, you're just going to not draft?

Poxy Von Sinister
02-16-2001, 09:23 AM
Yeah really, it wasn't like you didn't have 7 hours to get a pick in. Nick, I say after the first round we drop anyone who didn't pick in the first round. That would speed things up tremendously.

Understood, just want to keep things moving and avert a crisis on infinite earths liek last time. Sorry, Dave. For what it's worth, Blo offered to rescind his pick of Raiders for ya if it'd help.

Dave Davis

nah, that isn't necessary, i'm good. i guess i'm just still sore over losing Milano and Forlani in the chick draft...

Poxy Von Sinister
02-16-2001, 10:06 AM
Hey Dave, the second part of my post wasn't specifically directed at you, I wasn't trying to get you booted or anything. Just a lot of folks seem to not be paying attention. And sorry if I sounded snippy, it's early.

Goodfellas... the first real wound of many I will sustain in this draft.

Poxy Von Sinister
02-16-2001, 11:08 AM
ARGH! Maybe I was fooling myself but I was hoping GoodFellas would make it to Round 2. That movie always makes me hungry. Hmm, maybe NOT a good choice for a desert island then!

Nick, 5 of my top 10 favorite films of all time were taken before I even got to draft in the NINTH spot! (Actually 10th but Knox has yet to go). Thought I had it made. I feel your pain.

Damn you Django! I figured TPM would be the one Star Wars flick no one would choose first round. By the time the draft gets to me, I'm going to have the fucking Ewok movies left for Star Wars choices. This draft is punishing in just the first 10 picks.

I don't know, but I hope BRS gets a crack at it. No way it will last 'til Round 2 and there's no one else I;d rather have the last SW available flick http://www.chud.com/board/ubbhtml/smile.gif

Poxy Von Sinister
02-16-2001, 12:57 PM
Yeah, I'm betting on anti-Ewok bias myself, although look how much good the anti-Jar Jar bias did. Although the space battle and the Luke/Vader/Emperor scenes are some of the strongest in the whole saga.

trippingbillie41
02-16-2001, 03:22 PM
And I have taken what is rightfully mine. Seriously, I have been associated with Star Wars literally since birth.

And, Ewoks be damned, the force of bikini Leia and the Death Star battles make it a cool movie.

Time to start thinking...

trippingbillie41
02-16-2001, 04:48 PM
I knew that any list I might create for this draft would get obliterated by the end of the second round, if not the first round. Other than the two or three movies I REALLY want, I'm flying by the seat of my pants.

Django
02-16-2001, 04:57 PM
Star Wars Episode One is a lot of things to me and as such it was the only choice I had to make.

I chose it for all the friends long gone that with we promised to see it together.

I chose it for my friend Rob who my friendship with survived 10 years and with whom I saw it opening night.

I chose it for my mother and for how she reacted that night when she saw how close the mother and son relationship in it was to our own.

I chose it for my father to honor him for the way it is one of few understanding we have with each other.

I chose it because it marks a time in my life where the biggest events thus far hail from.

I chose it because I am Anakin Skywalker.

I chose it because it saved my worthless life.

I chose it because.

Django
02-16-2001, 05:45 PM
What part of this is unclear to you?

It was the movie event of our lifetime and at once made me a kid again for the last time as it forced me to grow up for the first.

Jar Jar doesn't concern me.
Darth Maul doesn't thrill me.
The effects do not wow me.

The story and what is to come moves me.

For it is me.

Django

So far these are pretty predictable and rather sad in a lot of ways.

Grim Fist is in the lead for picking Explorers, which not only is a very good movie and one of Dante's best, but is also a film no one saw coming.

Poxy Von Sinister
02-17-2001, 09:43 AM
Believe me Django, I've got some weird stuff coming down the pike. I just had to get one Star Wars movie, and for me, Empire is the essence of the series.

I agree, the first round should fall fairly predictably. You must grab the jewels that you know will get grabbed by somebody else. The later rounds are for the films you hope you cherish that few others do. Although in a movie forum, I think those hopes will get dashed pretty quickly.

Django
02-18-2001, 03:26 AM

trippingbillie41
02-18-2001, 01:15 PM
Phantom Menace did not blow, but anyway...

I was surprised to see Explorers go in the first round. I had planned on trying to get it. Is there some sentimental reason for the pick? I have a sentimental flick in mind, but I'm virtually certain that no one will choose it, so I'm saving it for a really late round.

Micah Robinson
02-18-2001, 01:17 PM
I learned last time that saving is a MISTAKE.

It cost me a really important lady that I was SURE no one else would take.

Jack, for the sake of peace among brothers I will refrain for responding to your TPM charge as I will also refrain from using your criteria to list all the reasons why AOD isn't much better.

After all, if you can't think of anything better to come here with than a tired chain of thought in an attempt to make things "interesting," I pity you. Much in the same way I pity anyone who still can't understand why there are people who enjoy and dare I say it love the movie. Especially after what's been written here.

You simply must do better next time...

10. Carl Cunningham
11. Flint

Alright, if I must explain myself: *clears throat* *cracks knuckles* *screams WHORE*

Contrary to what most people think so far, I actually did put some work into my list. My first five or six picks were going to be my favorite sci-fi/action/fantasy movies from different periods in my life.

I picked EXPLORERS (1985) first because it is the first movie that I can remember watching as a kid (I was five or six at the time). I also picked it because I can remember being blown away by the whole movie. It captured my imagination and it began my love for sci-fi movies.

Let's see, I picked SPLIT SECOND (1992)(which stars Rutger Hauer and Kim Cattrall) because I can remember watching it in the theater and thinking "This is just too FUCKING cool!" Ya'know? It was just one of those movies that did it for me.

Well, my picks might seem strange, but at least I've got them in on time http://www.chud.com/board/ubbhtml/smile.gif

Innocent X
02-20-2001, 04:45 PM
Well let's keep 17. WILLKO in mind due to that fact. As well as these people:

9. MICKEY KNOX (in Europe)
36. WIDGETT (didn't pick in RD 1.)
40. FALLEN ANGEL (also didn't pick in RD.1)

Speed up the draft where applicable.

Django
02-20-2001, 04:53 PM
Well thank you Trip. And if it any consolation, that bastard X just nabbed my third round pick with Raimi's Darkman.

X, YOU BASTARD!

And once again, Grim Fist is in the lead with two classics from beyond the norm. Both excellent choices. Especially Kimmy's shower scene which has been a Django favorite for the past 10 years or so.

OK, with two rounds almost over and the last of my beloved mainstream favorites taken I do believe this means war.
