I've had my Round 10 pick chosen since the beginning of the draft- a game that is a classic to me, but I believe is virtually unknown to the rest of the universe. But I must say I'm surprised at the number of great games still left on my list of potentials. I think that's because of all the PC games that have been drafted.

i think that i have the ultimate pick. granted, i know that it'll divide the crowd, half will say what the fuck, and half will (hopefully) realize it for the genious pick that it is...
now nobody go and fucking take it....

CHAOS: The Battle Of The Wizards is the finest strategy game ever written. It's deceptively simple, but repeated play reveals amazing depth. And all in a program smaller than the average JPEG.
If anyone else has heard of this game, you are my friend for life. If you've never heard of this game and I've piqued your interest, here's some links where you can download the ROM version. The author of the game (Julian Gollop, who went on to create Laser Squad and work on the X-COM series) has made it public domain.

Micah, are you coming to the Bond film tonight?
What does that have to do with the video game draft?
If you are coming tonight I'm kicking your ass for the Zaxxon pick.

Alright, who picked Earthworm Jim 2? Because I checked the lists and didn't see it ANYWHERE. If someone did indeed take it, i'd like to rescind my pick.

KI Gold. NICE. That was my back-up fighter selection. The only things I take issue with on that game are the lack of announcer and the way you have to finish the final boss. I spent many, many hours with this game throughout the time the N64 occupied a slot in my entertainment center.

Skuljagger...does ANYONE know this game? You battle pirates taking advantage of all the magical bubblegum littered along the various environments. Sounds dumb, but it was much deeper. The instruction manual was a 90-page novella/hint book that you NEEDED to find all the hidden areas and treasure. It took the whole "easter egg" gimmick to a new level and also featured branching game paths and alternate endings (if I remember correctly). The gameplay was relatively basic, but the mountains of secrets were the game's saving grace. The graphics were rather sharp, if simple, and it featured one of the best scores I remember in a SNES game.
Sadly, I do not own the game. Ignoring the fact that I was an poor, unemployed high school freshman, it was so expensive the parents wouldn't pop for it for my birthday or any other gift-giving holiday.

Killer Instinct Gold. The only game where you can do one hit on someone, and then trigger an unstoppable 586-hit combo to end the match without them even knowing what hit them.

Oh well...
Blunt
11-21-2002, 06:44 PM
Shit sorry man, hadn't noticed that. Well, you can always try doing a google search for "Loom abandonware". If that fails, I think you can order a pack with floppy versions of Loom, Zack McCracken, Indiana Jones and Monkey Island on LucasArts website for 20$.
Michael Rabattino
11-21-2002, 06:55 PM
No problem, you didn't know.
Yeah, I may do that. Not like those games aren't worth it and there are a few in some of their packs that I haven't played, or don't have anymore.

Unfortunately, "Loom" is still not abandonware (but there's probably one out there). I also visited Lucasarts' website and they don't seem to be selling it anymore. I will have to dig through my floppy-disk-based games and see if I have it in hand.

Well, I guess I'll be the first one to say this, but I have had a great time with this draft. This has been the first one that I have been a part of, and I must say, it is a lot more fun that I thought it could be. I am simply amazed by everyone's taste in videogames, and how closely they mirror mine. Kudos to everyone on their lists (except for the fuckers that took my games...Kid Icarus belongs to me! :) ).
Here's to a great time had in the Sewer, once again.

I'd like to applaude Confessor, Sir Pinch, and Goose for three great picks. At this point, I would normally curse alot and wish terrible deaths upon all of you, but I know what game I want to be my final pick. The chewer who takes it from me will suffer more pain than what comes from playing my third-round pick.

I'm kinda disappointed with my final pick, but it's not like I was really trying to win this thing. I do hope my list is strong enough but I had such a great time doing this, it doesn't even matter. Didn't realize something like this could be so much fun. I'm gonna be in every draft from here on in.

I picked the best strategy, War, and first Person shooters I could think of. All I needed was my most played Racer.
I picked San Francisco Rush Extreme Racing.
If you haven't ever played it, please do. Damn fun. And this is the only game I know of that you can almost fly in the car.

But heck, we ALL have gems.

Nice pick, flyers. I had a feeling someone would pick that one up in the draft. What a great game. Nothing like getting 3/4s of the way to Oregon, and then using up your last wagon tongue, or having all of your party die from typhoid. I think it's safe to say nearly everyone who went through school in the early 80's played this game.

MOO. For fuck's sakes, I was in sheer agony when you chose that. And for the love of God, MOM as well! I never expected such insane strategy. Apparently, you've played such games well. Then FFT was a game I was never expecting to be chosen by you. Pretty much in PC territory -- then *BAM* -- freaking take that SquareSoft masterpiece. And since I'm in 3-letter acronym territory: SOB!
[Addendum: I also have to apologize for scolding you for misspelling Master of Magic. You were <swallows shaken pride> correct the first time -- it's without the "s." I am so ashamed. Though that doesn't negate the fact that you still deserve a cancerous third testicle!]
BigRoundSailor
11-22-2002, 09:42 PM
I am still quite shocked that FFT lasted as long as it did. I had it as a 4th round pick originally, knowing that it would go in the first three rounds. I decided to put it off and see how far it would go. What an amazing game.
As for MOM and MOO, well, they have the sole distinction of having been on my first PC, a Gateway 2000 486, for the entire time I owned it. No other game came close. I don't know about you, but I'me getting excited for MOO3, which should be out in the first week of Dec.
Now if only they would do a sequel to MOM....
BTW, may a small dog end up epoxied to your ass teeth-first for taking JK2.

Absolutely brilliant pick, Flyers. I don't know how much time I spent in third grade around a computer naming the family after people I didn't like and then putting the wagon in the worst conditions possible. Of course, there were other non-disturbed fun aspects to game.
