Bought damn time Logan! I told u you would be missing out if u didn't.
This was an excellent show. Got right to business and showed Skinner and Sculler's angst over their friends disappearance.
Patrick was cool as hell and was established quickly as a potential bastard and sparring partner for Scully.
I liked how they made Scully the believer now (or at least as much as her scientific sensibilities will allow her) and Dogget the skeptic, this should play out really cool.
The best part was bringing in the brainiac kid from seasons 5/6. I wondered what the hell they were doing with this plot thread. Hopefully we will get some resolution and cooler episodes this season after a very weak 7th. Keep up the good work.....

This season shows promise already. Why?
It's tradition not only for X-files to have cliffhangers joining seasons, but for the season premier to only be vaguely connected; in fact, the opening teaser usually has NOTHING to do with what we've seen before (bees and telephone poles come to mind).
Not so in this case. The whole episode moved, was rarely vague, and had that sense of urgency that, combined with the cinematography, somehow manages to make the best X-files eps look more worthy of a cinematic suspense film than most actual suspense films.
For the first time in years I've been impressed by a season opener for the X-Files.
(And yes, I'm a major fan. I usually just don't like the first ep)

Skinner looks DOOMED to me.

Yes , Great opener.

The "mulder" walking around gotta be a shapeshifter!

Yeah, they gave it away in one of the promos.

I liked it. Mulder got some chop-soey action on the ship.

Did you notice that Scully was wearing that same outfit from the first season? Kinda a back to their roots type thing to start out the new season.

Yes! someone nailed it! VAGUE was the adjecive I used most often to describe some of the episodes of late. Last season's opener was exactly that. The ep where Mulder finds out about his dead sis was the same. Thankfully, we got none of that. Everything was answered or will be answered. Thank God.

Very solid. I haven't been able to bring myself to watch this for the past two seasons, but the show definitely feels like it's moving in a good direction. I'll be there next week.

On a side note, Futurama was pretty good (I expect more from this show, and I look forward to it more than just about anything on TV), King of The Hill was very good, and the Simpsons was disappointing.

BTW, Nick, what does "doused" mean in this case? He's a wet fish? http://www.chud.com/board/ubbhtml/smile.gif

Well maybe he was talking about when Scully dumped her water on him.

I was. I typed that as it happened on the show.

great episode. i think this season has a lot of promise with new chemistry and a more coherent driving theme behind the episodes to replace the hunt for samantha (ie, the hunt for mulder). at times robert patrick looked like lance hendrikson to me, but he came off very well in this first episode. looking forward to next week.

I think it would have been cool as hell to have Lance replace Mulder, Patrick is cool, but I did so enjoy "millenium" in it's first two seasons anyway. The crossover show last year was pretty lame. I think Lance is paying for his sins on some shit show on UPN.

One of the things the show excels at is knowing how to shoot the actors. The lighting on them is always top notch. Robert Patrick, in most movies, seems to be lit hot & harsh from the top to emphasise his cheekbones, but they tended to choose a warmer, softer side angle to make his eyes glow and generally make him look calmer & cooler.
X-files has a visual style that may be copied, but is somehow never duplicated, much like the sound of Pink Floyd.

People can bash Chris Carter all they want, but you have got to hand it to him for creating a show with such a unique look.
This show is shot like a movie and it look outstanding every time out. The lighting too like someone said is very clever. Me likey.

And I love how they stay true to their original format. I mean, the lighting and style of the show is just the same now as it was 8 years ago.

One problem that I occasionally have with this show is that Chris Carter does not adequately explain what the hell has been happening in between the Alien Mythology episodes that air. At least he can do a better job at "connecting the dots" while making things up as he goes along (-- and please don't tell me that this alien storyline has been planned out this far along from the beginning).

For example, Carter did not explain what happened to Gibson Praise between his last appearance with the alien at the nuclear power plant two seasons ago and tonight's sudden reappearance at a school for the deaf. Just connect the dots ... give the viewer a throw-away line explaining things ... give us something, anything -- am I being unreasonable here?

Also, how did Krycek turn up in a Russian (?) prison at the end of last season? Why was he there? How did Marita Covarrubias find him? Wasn't she last seen dying after being exposed to the alien virus by the Syndicate?

I just think that Carter can do a better job tying up loose ends.

Thiss is a great site that helps to explain the alien backstory.

I agree, I love the X-files but sometimes it's frustrating as hell when the loose ends are not tied up. Although its still way too early for us to klearn anything about what happened to Gibson.

I, um, was kidding about Scully's hair. As for anything wrong with dyeing...I think I've dated maybe 3 girls who even know what their natural haircolour is, anymore. http://www.chud.com/board/ubbhtml/wink.gif
