Does anyone know if they're planning another X-files movie? I thought the last one was pretty cool and I've heard some rumours, but I wonder if any net-hedz had any scoops?

Yeah, they are definitely planning a 2nd and I believe it will start shooting sometime next summer.

The plot is not known as of yet, but obviously it will focus on Mulder and Scully on the run from the government.

I miss the X-Files already. frown

will it be any good - that is the real question...

I am a fan of the earlier X-Files seasons but while I did enjoy the movie the seasons just faltered there after and a little bit before it hit the silver screen.

As it so happens, i'm not a Twin Peaks fan.

So what does your post mean?

It could end up being a prequel that really doesn't end up doing what the fans thought it would surely do: tie up all the loose ends.

Because Mulder and Scully running from the government for 90 minutes would be really great?

But there is one thing for sure-- I will be there on opening day no matter what.

I rarely watched the TV show, but I dug the flick, and I'd probably check this out.

But yeah, they'll need something big to hook people, I think.

Maybe they should investigate the mystery of deminishing returns...

I've never watched the show either, but I was very impressed with the first movie. If they get Rob Bowman back as director, I'd be very happy.

After Reign of Fire, he might not be available.

Actually the movie will NOT be a conspiracy film. It'll be a stand alone case, most likely having to do with some bizarre creature or something. Chris Carter said so recently.

This is good, because there'll be NO "mythology" knowledge required.

Agreed. I got bored with the show because it was one long boring crappy government conspiracy, and stopped doing the monster-of-the-week shows that drew me to the show in the first place.

I agree. The mythology arc is way too complicated now for anyone without a doctorate in X-Files Studies to comprehend it and even the professors on that course can't agree.

Ghosty monstery demony things are the way to go, if you ask me.

And Mulder. Shirtless. wink

The mythology arc just doesn't make any kind of sense. And the stuff that does make sense, isn't all that interesting. I think a stand alone, monster ep is just what the Chris Carter ordered. Those were always my favorite eps, anyway. Now the question is - is the movie going to take place after the finale, or will it take place in earlier "X-Files" history.

Okay, I haven't seen the show since it first started, but did they clear up what happened in the first movie in the show? If they didn't, I'd like to either see a pure sequel to the first movie, or, if the show did that, either redue it or go with the stand-alone/prequel ideas.

Not really, most of the attempts at any questions being answered got screwed when the bad terminator was brought to the show and Scully took over Foxs role.

this thread has been derailed by mr glass...as for the placement of the thread, it probably now belongs in Television or Movies that should be made.

A true sequel to the X-Files: Fight The Future would be impossible. They've killed off the syndicate and some of the primaries. The mythology has become a convoluted mess ruined by the tacked on super-soldier storyline. Doing a movie would be confusing to the mainstream (if they were to pick up where the show left off)...because the mainstream doesn't care enough to have followed the show since the last movie was made. Financially it would be suicide, and a critical disaster.

A stand alone movie would be great. I don't know if they could enlist Darren Morgan, but his wit and style is desperately needed. Maybe tackle something like Big Foot...return the show to it's roots in rural British Columbia. Back to the dark moist forests. Then again, Lake Placid has already been made.

On second thought, let the x-files legacy die and fade away. Chris Carter screwed it. Screwed it all to hell.

Isn't a sleeper a movie that unexpectedly makes a ton of cash?
