The Genesis Code. A thriller with religious implications.

Very nice. I suggest it.

Better than those, "Left Behind" books.

I like it!

I also like the little green italics I added to make the excerpt hit home.

Me too. Now go back and add them to the rest of my reviews.

Heh.

Or at least do it in the future.

Nobody loves our book, Nick. I say we implement those extreme measures we were talking about, no?

Sounds intruiging grendel...

Have you read The Miracle Strain? The author escapes me at the moment but it sounds quite similar. I enjoyed that and thought it would have made a good little film, but it's definately one of those books that I class as a Movie Script In Three Easy Steps, not a literary classic but a good read.

I'm curious to know if I'm going to be reading the same kind of novel here...

Miracle Strain is by Michael Cordy, and it sounds similar in theme AND execution (I have not read it, but if I can find it at the used bookstore I will, just to check out exactly how close the two come to one another...).

I think the difference may lie in that Joe Lassiter in the Genesis Code is a guy looking for answers, with a network of people to do it for him, and the means to go brutal if he must, whereas the Miracle Strain guy is a doctor racing to save a life.

Still, desperate man in a time-sensitive situation pitting cutting-edge (read: Not yet existing) science against religious theory...yeah, you might say that they sound similar.

Although, with the Miracle Strain, my question is this...SPOILERS!!!: The geneticist wants to find the hidden body of Christ because he was the one PERFECT being, right? Then he wants to replicate Christ's DNA to use it to heal his daughters brain tumor...DNA from...and I want you to ponder this closely...CHRIST'S BODY...

The flaw is both obvious and inherent. Christ's body ascended, the final act and proof of Christdom. If this scientist guy is searching for Christ's body because he was the perfect being, how can he be sure that Christ was the perfect being if he's friggin' lying around dead?! At that point he could just be an unpopular public speaker!!!

Still, if you say it's a good, quick read I'll pick it up.

In fact, I may have intrigued MYSELF to go pick it up...

Don't know if you study history, but I did a bit of personal research after watching Name of the Rose, a few years back.

The Fransicans (sp?) (Sean Connery's lot) and the Dominicans, (the Inquisition), both groups were sitting in the Vatican, probably in the Catholic equivalent of the CHUD message boards and one of the Fransy lot suddenly popped up the message topic:

'Since Christ was circumsised, would the remains of that circumsion have risen with him, or would it have become material the moment it left his body?'

Now, what should have been a very simple, 10 minutes down the pub argument, caused the Dominicans to cry 'heresy' and led to the burning of over 100 Franciscans, all over this one point.

After all this bloodshed the Pope (one of the Pious' I think) declared there would be some sort of official investigation into the matter, but he died before he could begin the process, and the next Pope declared the matter Vetoed from all discussions during his reign.

To this day, the matter has never been resolved... All because of that simple question...

Guess my point is, watch out grendel... You could have F Murray Abraham after you before you know it! http://www.chud.com/board/ubbhtml/smile.gif
