I saw these two films as a double-bill tonight and I have to say it was great fun. Grindhouse Releasing is putting out I Drink Your Blood next month if I remember correctly. Everybody MUST see this film. It's fucking hillarious. One of the most fun theater experiences I've had(even though towards the end the film kept cutting out).
Check this story out:
A group of satanic hippies get stuck in a town with a population of 40. They brutalize the daughter of the local vet and squat at an old hotel. The vet grabs his rifle and goes over to take care of business at the hotel, but instead he gets a beating and doesed with LSD. His grandson doesn't like this much so he heads over with the rifle himself but instead kills a rabid dog. He takes blood from the dog and puts it in meat pies which he sells to the satanic hippies. Almost the whole town ends up infected.
Oh man, this is one classic piece of exploitation I'm glad I didn't miss. The gore is fun and the dialogue is wonderfully horrible. Definitely one to see with and audience who appreciates this shit. What an audience it was. The guy who runs Grindhouse(Who also edited Spider-Man . I'm pretty sure there was a Fango article about him.) was there along with the director and 3 cast members who all had some great stories to share. There were a couple of other cult people in the audienc as well. The director said that this was the first movie to get the dreaded X rating and got it after it was sent out to all the movie houses. The theaters didn't want to show it because of the rating so they were told to have their projectionists edit it to what they thought their community could handle. There ended up being over 300 different versions of this film. The DVD will be the original cut.
Blood Eaters was equally fun. It involved a group of hippies who get sprayed by an experimental herbicide while picking the "crops". It turns them into mindless, blood-thirsty cannibals. Though, they may have been zombies. It didn't really matter though. This flick was as ridiculous as they come.
Watching these two movies tonight really makes me want to sit down and write the most horrible thing I could and film it. WE NEED A NEW ERA OF EXPLOITATION! I guess this is going to be a monthly thing at this theater. I think it is all put together by Grindhouse Releasing and next month the bill is The Wizard of Gore and Daughters of Dracula.
Anyway, I highly recommend I Drink Your Blood .
