I had heard that "Curse of the Demon" was a Brit classic, never seen it though. Then I read Video Watchdog's extensive review of the Columbia Tri-Star disc which features the double bill of "Curse of the Demon" and "Night of the Demon" - they're the same film, only "Night" is the original, uncut version.

In any case, I'm watching it for the first time and a little bell goes off in my head about 3/4 of the way into the movie...here, folks, we have a one of Ring's major influences.

The story concerns a debunker of those who claim to dabble in the supernatural. When he meddles with one guy he shouldn't be messing with, he receives a piece of paper with some runes on it. Having received this paper, he learns he is going to die by a certain time and a nasty demon is going to appear and tear the shit out of him.

His only out to avoid such a fate is...by passing the paper to someone else.

It's a really incredible movie and no horror fan should let this gem pass them by. Acting and writing is all top-notch. Damn spooky at times too. Highly recommend!

Damn, I was just looking at this the other day and put it back down. Sounds like I need to go back and get it!

It's an awesome film. Try some of M.R. James' other stories for yet more Ring influence.

This film and Don't Look Now almost make me physically uncomfortable while watching them. There's such a claustrophobic sense of dread. Strange that the two films (ring and Demons) are the last two covers of good ole' VW.

Yeah, I've got that DVD. Only watched the longer brit version, haven't compared the shorter american cut.
But this is a great film. Intelligent, spooky horror in that way the brits do so well. I remember really digging the scene between the leader of the cult and Dana Andrews at the childrens birthday party.
I agree with Ryan, if you haven't seen this, you should rent it or buy it.
