Does anybody know anything about a DVD release of this film? I looked at imdb.com and the link shows new as out of stock and a used for $85. While I like the movie, I'm not shelling out that kind of cash for one film. PLus, I'm all out of bubble gum.
Anyone know of an upcoming special edition or anything?
Thanks in advance.

The dirty Europeans already have a SE of this gem. Check out Mr. Whitehead's CHUD DVD review <a href="http://www.chud.com/chudvd/reviews/theylive.php3" target="_blank">right here</a>.
Here in R1 we have the crappy bare-bones edition. Check around to your various local DVD merchants. You may find a copy for $10. I heard a SE will drop for R1 next year sometime, but I could be wrong.

You won't find a copy for anywhere near 10.00, because it's long out of print.
I once thought it'd be cool to buy three or four and have Roddy sign 'em.
Then I realized I was poor, and I didn't want to bug Roddy.
Now I wish I would have bought three or four just to stick them on e-Bay two years later and make seven times what I paid for them.
Piper and Carpenter recorded a commentary. For a German release. Neither man speaks German. There has to be a R1 special edition coming someday...

I hope they make a region 1 special edition soon. The movie has been long out of print so don't expect to find it anywhere unless you want to pay a hefty price. At Amazon it costs $80 and you can find at Ebay but it won't cost any less. If you have a region free DVD player you can just get the region 2 DVD from England for about $25 in American money.

I've got the R2 release, and it's VERY pretty. Great transfer
The commentary is good, but not his best. Nothing cock-blasting or anything.

Haven't listened to the commentary yet. But I had assumed it would be great, what with Roddy and Carpenter in the same room together. I'd like to have heard them get into their anti-Reagan/pro-Reagan bit again.

We REALLY need this special edition, this movie's a classic.
THIS IS YOUR NEW GOD
Definitely the best performance by a wrestler in the history of cinema.

I beg to differ. I refer you to the seminal 3 NINJAS: HIGH NOON AT MEGA MOUNTAIN.

How quickly everyone forgets Roddy Piper's breakthrough performance as Quick Rick Roberts in Body Slam.
Not only does Roddy hold his own on screen with such legends as Dirk Benedict and Charles Nelson Reilly but some would say (I am not this bold) that his performance was shitacular.

I have the first DVD out here.
It is empty.
I picked it up a LONG time ago. It was $30 new. That was back when Universal had empty disks for high prices - like Demon Knight and Firestarter. Now, I see those same disks (if available) for like $10 - I feel like a sucker.

Well hey you know they have been making a lot of good dvd's of older Carpenter films lately. This seems like it would be the most likely candidate for next in line.
