I finally got ahold of a vhs copy of this movie. It could quite simply be the best damn thing I have seen in years..period...is the dvd worth picking up..as I already have the vhs version??

The DVD has a decent commentary and several deleted scenes centering around a ditched subplot.

Hell yes!
First of all, the obvious is that on DVD you can see it in the proper aspect ratio which makes the already creepy Danvers look even more so.
Plus there's some cool featurettes like a making of and one on Danvers, a pretty cool look at a whole subplot cut out shown with deleted scenes, and audio commentary by the writer and director.
And I also found the photo galleries of the different takes on the poster/promo art pretty cool.

Session 9 is worth having in any and all forms it's available.
Everyone above hit the points I was going to make, but the DVD transfer looks a lot better than the vhs.

My question would be why even bother with VHS at all anymore? Great movie which should be in every DVD collection. So yeah, it is OAR Baby!

Well, every movie thread has to have at least one person come in and say that the movie sucked, so here I am. This movie was a POS. It had a lot of potential, it really did. THe mood, atmosphere, directing...everything seemed to be working to create this perfect feeling of suspense, fear and dread. But somehow it just didn't. Like something was off by a few millimeters and kept everything from coming together. Maybe it's just my utter hatred for Howdy Doody. Every time the movie started to get interesting he would pop back in and spoil it. Oh well, Diff'rent Strokes....

Floydian Trip:
My question would be why even bother with VHS at all anymore?...I can say that, for me, there are a few movies that I just want to have because I like them enough to own, but I don't really care about any behind the scenes stuff or "extras". For example, I found Apocalypse Now Redux on VHS for $4 at Wal-mart. A good movie, but since I'm not heavily into war films, I got something decent for a fair price. At the same time, if there's only a couple dollars' difference in the price of a film between the two formats, I'll almost always go with DVD. I don't have a home theater setup so most of the technical features are lost on me.

Largely, it boils down to price, with other factors thrown in. I don't see VHS going away completely for some time yet. It's still a fairly viable, though imperfect, media format.

Just my $0.02 worth.

jah

but I look at the long haul

DVDs will stand the test of time better

so that $4 movie will end up costing the same if not more than the DVD over time

unless, that is, it goes OOP

but that is another topic

*Looks around*

This movie disapointed me bunches. Had its moments but I was expecting to be more um, frightened.
