View Full Version : Session 9
I apologize if I missed the original thread for this but I just saw Session 9 at the movies last night. Not a bad flick. Great middle section. Slow to get started and I wasn't crazy about the wrap up but this flick had some tense and riveting sequences during the downward spiraling second act that stayed with me after I left the theater, particularly Brendan Sexton III running through the underground tunnel.
Anyway, if you haven't seen it, and you like getting spooked, I recommend it.

Ah - here we go - from my thread "Session 9: I still think it sucks"
Sorry Girlie - just read your review (great stuff, as always) and I still stand my ground. Believe me, I'm all for new and experimental, but in this case Anderson failed on so many levels.
Let's start with the tech-end of things:
The digital look was atrocious. Apparently, Lucas is using the same thing for Episode 2. He's got money. He'll make it look good.
Next, the acting:
All great and good, but the actors were given shitty material.
Now onto the story and Anderson:
Howza 'bout we throw in some more shots of bugs creeping around in the daylight? Also, every scene was still trying to establish who these characters were. The story didn't move. I want movement dammit. Set the characters up in a clean, timely manner and move on! Thrust them into the meat of the story. Give them something to do dammit! Their goal is to rid the building of asbestos within a week. A WEEK. But what do we find our heroes doing? Sitting on their asses and fuckin' around! Guys - if something's gonna pull you away from the job - it better be something spooky.
I guess what got me in 'Session 9' was the story. Truthfully, I didn't know what to expect, and I really believe Anderson didn't know where he was going with the story.
Film student territory here, fiends.
