Have a wife who disapproves of horror films, and young rug-rats running around the house, so I hardly ever get to rent a good scare pic. Wife & kids are leaving town for a few days to see relatives...what should I rent? My favorite horror films to date:

Silence of the Lambs
Seven
Alien
Aliens

Thanks for the recommendations...

Don't need to mention "Evil Dead." I hear
"Firehead" is good...

Firehead be damned! EVil Dead 1, 2, and 3 (Army Of Darkness) are great, but perhaps to b-movieeque and comical for your tastes, although I don't know your tastes. You can always try dead alive, but you must be sure to get the full non-rated release rather than the Blockbuster edited R rated one.

Or you could go the 'Dawn/Day Of The Dead' route. Can't go wrong with Romero, really. Or try Coppola's 'Bram Stoker's Dracula'. It's not a scarry movie, excpet for Keanu Reeves's accent. Then you'll be walking around for days saying, "But sir, I know where the BAHstard sleeps!".

Check out "Near Dark." It's got three cast
members from "Aliens" playing vampires.

Lance Henricksen - Bishop
Bill Paxton - Hudson
Jeanette Goldstein - Vasquez

Bad mofos. All of em.

Event Horizon is a pretty cool one. More sci-fi but pretty damn scary at points.

Of course we mustn't forget The Blair Witch Project...although i've got afeeling it's gonna have shitload of imitations coming out. In fact there's one already...a spoof: The Blair Clown Project. A real scary movie is johnny mnemonic...I ran screaming to my room when it was over

For a good horror film, why not catch In the Mouth of Madness?

Other good, though not scary genre films are:

The Serpent and the Rainbow (Craven's best)
Fright Night (fun, fun vampire flick)
