Not an altogether bad movie. Maybe someday it will come out on DVD. I had the VHS version for a long time.

I remember seeing the previews when I was young. Never got the chance to see or rent it. Isn't it about underground worm monsters?

I rented this on DVD about 4 months ago. I saw it when I was about 12 and it scared me to death. Unfortunately, I forgot the name of it and spent the next 17 years looking for it. Well, not the entire 17 years, but I looked around the Internet and anytime I was in a video store I would ask about it. Never remembered the name of it until I lucked up and ran across it at the video store.

I remember a poodle getting sucked through a vent.

I saw this again a year or two ago and as I recall it was a fun grade C flick. Turtle monsters in a mine if I recall.

Apparently there are only 7 people in the United States that have heard of this movie. When I was trying to find it I think I had this conversation about 30 times:

soultaker: "Hey, I'm looking for this movie from the 80s about a monster or mutant animal that comes into this house through a hole in the basement and kills people. I think there was a mine or cave nearby and the creature had burrowed into the house from there. Does that sound familiar?"
various people: "Yeah, it was called Of Unknown Origin. Had Peter Weller in it."
soultaker: "No, that's not it."
vp: "Yeah it is."
s: "Okay, thanks."

Check out this quote from the cover sleeve:

"I recommend 'The Boogens'...cheerfully and heartily." - Stephen King

So, he did the same thing for Evil Dead, and look how popular that movie is now. What gives?

I guess they should have named the movie "Turtles From Hell". That would have helped.

Of Unknown Origin was a cool little film as well. I haven't seen it since the mid 80's but Weller (and his spiked bat) vs. the large rodent was pretty entertaining. I wonder if it would still hold up if I saw it with adult eyes.

Wow, I actually remember seeing this in the movie theater. Thought it was pretty cool when I was a kid. Haven't even THOUGHT of it since then, tho. Wouldn't mind seeing it again, but don't think I would go out of my way to find it...

Oh, I ALWAYS have to reply when anyone mentions THE BOOGENS, it's one of my favorite early 80's horror flicks.
Pretty much forgotten now ( hell, it was pretty much forgotten back when it was still in release! :( ), it was an effective, creepy little monster movie.
I first became aware of the film when I read the novelization of it which was released about a year or so before the movie actually was. Of course like a lot of novelizations, the book was significantly different from the finished film, but both were VERY cool IMO.
After seeing THE BOOGENS in the theater in '81 or '82, I watched it several more times a little later on when it became a latenight staple on Showtime or The Movie Channel throughout the early 80's. Then it just seemed to disappear.
Therefore it was with great pleasure that I discovered it for sale on tape in '97. It was probably one of the very last movies that I bought on VHS infact. For an $8.99 pan & scan it's not bad, but I need this one on DVD!

'Cause to my knowledge THE BOOGENS has yet to be released on DVD.

Nope, no DVD on this one yet. Somebody put it on VCD on Ebay, but that's about it.

Unless HBO, MAX or SHO has shown it, it had to have been DVD or maybe VCD. It's possible that a friend brought over a VCD.
