I know alot of people dont like this movie, but I must say its really not a bad movie at all. In fact, Id go on record as saying its actually pretty damn good. Considering how "radical" the 80's were (sorry, HAD to throw that in there)Joel Schumacher did a good job putting a clever little spin on the vampire mythos.

I hadnt seen that movie in a few years and then yesterday it was on as part of VH1's Movies That Rock series. I watched it and was refreshingly entertained.

Id say that the Lost Boys is right up there with Fright Night and Fright Night 2 as underrated and underappreciated vamp flicks.

Anyone agree/disagree?

i totally agree, and while it may be because i was PERFECT "teenybopper" age when it came out (born in '75, here) when i watch it today, it still stands up well. the gore is really well done, and the characters are easy to identify with and pretty well rounded. you can't say that about more horror, especially vampire flicks, even today.

yeah but its a damn shame the dvd didnt get better treatment. All it has is a triler and the widescreen and fullscreen version of the film. And why the hell r ya watchin it on vh1 anyway? Please all those channels do is take good movies and censored them right down to shit.

I've never thought of The Lost Boys as underrated, because I've never heard anything but love for the movie. It's goofy as all fuck, sure, but its great fun and even has some neat gore. The Fright Night movies kick its ass though. You're so cool, Brewster!

It maybe due to the Gen whos seen it, me being born in 71 was in the Theatre turned cinema, for the opening but if its some of todays teens then this reaction doesnt surprise me.
Dont agree on Frightnight 2, felt just like a rehash of 1 to me but yeah Frightnight 1 was just as good IMO.

Despite the fact that it has both of the Coreys in it, it's actually one of my favorite vampire films. I loved Grandpa, and the plot twist at the end. Genius.

Cry little sister ... thou shall not fall...

I LOVE Lost Boys. Great flick, eighties hair and all. Someday it will be worshipped.

I agree fully that The Lost Boys is a very well done film, as for it being underrated I'd have to say no. Like many others everyone I talk to (who has seen it) shows nothing but love for it, the cast is stellar, the hair is big, and the music just flat out rocks! I actually loved this movie so much at one point held it as my favorite film, and even bought the soundtrack,...but that was awhile ago, ahh the 80's wink

Wow. That was a pretty overwhelming response. I diddnt really mean it was underrated in terms of its popularity, but in terms of its appreciation as a simple, yet damn good vamp flick.

Oh and yes the soundtrack was awesome. Especially a little song called Cry Little Sister from some then-unknown band called the Sisters of Mercy.

The hate comes from the fact that it came out about the same time as Near Dark, and Lost Boys got all the attention. Since one is gritty, gorey and badass, while the other is slick, hip and a little campy, those of us that preferred the former threw a little hate towards the latter. But Lost Boys is a good film. The soundtrack...well, separated from the film, it annoys me, but it's the perfect music for that movie.

I always heard from people how great this movie was. When I finally saw it, I was disappointed. I think I would have loved it when I was 12, but it's really not a film for adults. When I was a kid, I loved The Goonies and Monster Squad. I think Lost Boys sits right along with those flicks in terms of tone and quality. Of course, Lost Boys was rated R, wasn't it? Silly MPAA.

Echo and the Bunnymen rule, though.

Well said; Lost Boys is solid - nothing I'd go out of my way to watch, but it's not bad...

...but it can't hold Near Dark's jock, IMO.

I think this movie rocks!!! My brother and I watch this like crazy! It's one of his favorite movies and I think it damn rocks. I also really like the movie Fright Night, I almost put it on the same line for they are pretty similar vamp films the MONSTER SQUAD would rank up there too.

But I think THE LOST BOYS ROCKS

I just caught a few minutes of Lost Boys on VH1 tonight. (I guess that makes more sense than VH1 showing the Godfather. What's with that?) I had forgotten how much younger (and thinner) Edward Herrmann looked fifteen years ago. Great actor -- he shows up in guest roles on cop shows, lawyer shows, and of course Gilmore Girls. He played a great Randolph Hearst in last year's Cat's Meow, too.

I'm so used to seeing the vamp forehead and eyes on Buffy and Angel now, that it surprised me to see it used in Lost Boys. I guess the look wasn't so original after all.
