View Full Version : Could 2001 be a banner year for horror?

Okay, yeah, that's waaaay too optimistic for the internet, but after "Jeepers Creepers" and after reading Mori's review of the slowly-starting-to-get-some-buzz "Session 9," as well as what I've seen from "13 Ghosts," I'm starting to think that this year may just fucking rock. Oh, yeah - who can forget the originality behind "Ginger Snaps?"

Big questions: Will "Ghosts of Mars" kick ass? How about "The Others?" Will "Soul Survivors" even get released? Is March 22nd really the new "Jason X" date? What about "House of 1,000 Corpses?"

Yeah, "Bones" and "Resident Evil" may or may not suck, but after last year's dismal year of crapola, it looks like there's actually some good stuff for horror fans hitting in 2001 now that we've gotten "The Forsaken" out of the way.

Anyone else feeling cautiously optimistic?

Cautiously optimistic is a good way of putting it, Mr. Rubenstein.

I like the lineup, especially with all the good things I've heard about Ginger Snaps and Jeepers Creepers. Can Brotherhood of the Wolf from France be classified as a 'horror film?' I went to the website and it's got some beautiful pictures. Looks pretty arty to be a real bloody one, but could pack some chills.

I read some opinions from people on other message boards about 'Brotherhood' that said it's really not much of a "horror" film, no. Personally, I'm looking forward to '13 Ghosts', 'Jeepers Creepers' and 'House' more then anything else. The rest of the lot will probably suck.

That's the sad thing. For every 'Jeepers Creepers' that comes out, there's going to be twelve more 'Soul Survivors' (it's been pushed back and pushed back, much like 'Lost Souls', which had perfectly good reason to not be released).

I think 2001 will be a damn good year for horror, personally, which means 2002-2006 will not.

It could be a banner year if some of the great films mentioned here on the Corner actually got some distribution. Though I don't see theatrical distribution any time soon in THE CONVENT's future, a video release would certainly make some heads turn.

I seriously think HO1KC will send a massive wave through the horror industry...but again, who knows when that sucker's getting released. If GINGER SNAPS could go theatrical over here in the U.S., that would completely rock. And I certainly hope nothing but the best for JEEPERS CREEPERS.

As for these other films like BONES, 13 GHOSTS, GHOSTS OF MARS, and SOUL SURVIVORS...I'm not going to get my hopes up until I see the flicks.

It IS great to see such a big horror line-up for the year though. That's good.

Forgot about the Convent as that was last year, but that movie is so fucking hilarious, I hope it comes out in a way other than some bootleg artist at a Con pimpin' it for $20.

I don't think it really matters when the film was completed/released in festivals at this point. The masses are not seeing it and that's really not too cool. The film needs distribution.

I NEED to see this 13 GHOSTS trailer though...I think I'm the only cat that loves HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL ('99).

House on Haunted Hill has a coule of decent merits (the gore was tasty) but all in all I have to rate it a "blech fest", serious underusage of Jeffrey Combs is a travesty.

The lady is right. I had a lot of fun with 'House..' until the end, when the CGI took over. What woulda been wrong with using Jefferey the crazy doctor as the nemesis? At least he was creepy. Granted, the CGI did look Lovecraftian, but it also looked like ASS the entire time it was on screen.

When I'm working here at my computer, the two DVDs I pop in more than ANY OTHERS for background noise are "Man On The Moon" and "House On Haunted Hill." "House On Haunted Hill" is one of my favorite horror films of the '90s far and away, up there with "Deep Rising." I have done a double-feature of "Deep Rising" and "House on Haunted Hill" more times than I'd ever like to admit.

And Ryan, yeah, the "13 Ghosts" trailer rocks, but there's so much blood in it that I'm sure it's going to get trimmed.
