I'm wanting to pick up the Dead Trilogy, because I'm sorry to admit that Romero's best isn't sitting in my collection right now. Except I don't want to buy the three film pack as I hear that a new Dawn Special Edition with Argento's cut will be coming out. So can anyone point me toward the BEST Dead DVD's out, please?

Are you going to get NotLD '90 version and the classic...becuz if your getting both, stay away from NOTLD:30th Anniversary Edition..The only DVD I could suggest right now is the Anchor Bay release of Day of the Dead, excellent DVD. and wait for Dawn's Special Edition which comes out next year.

The R2 Trilogy boxed set reportedely has the NOTLD 30th Anniversary Edition, y'know, the travesty.

I say just buy the NOTLD Millenium Edition, the new Anchor Bay Day of the Dead SE, and NOTLD 90 (for the whole collection) sepatately.

Then get the Dawn of the Dead SE coming out in February/March.

Get them all searately, but get the best.

You'll be happy you did.

The millenium edition- is that the one with the new footage they edited back in? Does it have the original Night of the Living Dead with it?

The best version is Elite's Millenium edition- with a picture of a gravestone on the front. It's packed with extras.

I must admit, I'm tremendously tempted to get the 30th Anniversary Edition, just to see how badly done it was.

Brother.....
The 30th Anniversary Edition sucks soo baad... you'll end up hating NOTLD!!! It's off stupid, and ends retarded (Damn, those two together don't bode well for the film!! LOL!)
Yes, it has interspersed shots of the original NOTLD in it, but it's all convuluted... it's like John Russo's dumb-ass was tryin' to re-create the original to suit his "vision"!!...
The only saving grace in this film, is at the very end of the movie (VHS version)
There's a short snippet of an upcoming (film/short film!?!) where a little girl gets it from a zombie that knocks on her door!!
'Sides that I guess you're better off goin' with whatsome of the other guys posted!!
The new DOTD release is "fuckin' bad-ass"...
GET that one first!!!

Take care

It is probably worth a look though- if only as a "How to Fuck up an Amazing Movie" guide.

I wish I knew it sucked before I bought it...don't make the same mistake as me..it's in my collection but it's collecting dust as I speak. :)

I made the mistake of buying it also. I never finished watching it and it's the only DVD that I have ever thrown in the trash and I own 750 DVDs. I could have re-sold it but I wouldn't do that to anyone.

Same here.
I was excited about it when it was first announced. The idea of the classic movie with new zombie footage in it....good stuff.

Then you watch it and realize that they took out many scenes, many expository dialogue scenes that add depth to the characters and put in visually out of place footage of zombies.

The new footage is crystal clear, obviously color footage run through a b&w filter. Some scenes actually have the rainbow effect, which is when there is an odd colored tint due to the film color processing/bleaching.

The original footage seems to be from a shitty print, so it goes from grainy to crystal clear.

It mkes no sense.

It was just an excuse for Russo and crew to give some jobs to their friends and family. That, and to cash in.

Mine has been watched once, that's all.

Just out of curiosity, Best Buy has a version of NOTLD on dvd listed for a 12-16-2003 release. Anyone know what that one is?

The original NOTLD is in the public domain, so anybody with $500 can buy a print of it and produce their own DVD for sale. That's why there are so many versions. The Elite edition is as good as it gets for extras, so shrewd purchasers should stick with that for now.
