I caught this again on TV the other day. I had to give it some love.
It's a perfectly crafted horror movie. There are many levels of storytelling here that reveal themselves with repeated viewings. I can only imagine how much more effective it was back in the day when the women's lib movemnet was such a hot-button issue.
Regardless of that, it's still a fine example of building suspense and dread. The masterstroke, I feel, is the way the audience is much more aware of what's happening than Rosemary is. We know she's in deep trouble, but she is mostly unaware until it's too late.
The personification of witches as annoying old busy-bodies works wonders. It makes the characters not only believable, but inherently dislikable on many levels. It also makes them appear deceptively harmless.
The dreams sequences are the best ever caught on film. It's the only time I ever feel like I'm actually IN this character's dreams. Masterfully done.
The ending (no spoilers here) is perfect. From the grand implications of Rosemary's final decision to simple humorous touches like Ruth Gordon rubbing the floor where the knife fell.
This is wonderful movie that I don't think enough modern horror fans have seen. Definitely check it out. It's worth seeing again and again.

Definitely one of my favorite movies ever. My whole life people have told me how it's not even worth watching, I rented it about 2months ago and my mind was blown! Great, great movie. I've probably seen it a dozen times since then. Cassevetes is genius in that flick.

Also one of the best endings ever. Somethin' about all those old people screaming "Hail Satan!" with such pleasure, damn. I also liked the whole conspiracy angle; reminded of The Game with Michael Douglas (another underrated flick).

Probably the most suave and realistic horror movie ever made.

How do you guys do it, I always fall asleep right in the middle of this movie, it just like one powerful sleeping pill man.

I'll try it again this time I'll make a whole lot of coffee.

This one is a candidate for a remake.

"Rosemary's Baby" is one of the best horror films ever made, IMO. No gore, no gimmicks -- just a whole heaping of good old fashioned paranoia, terrific acting, black comedy, and one of the best dream sequences ever in a movie.

I love it.

Having just bought THE TENANT on DVD, I was going to post a topic about Roman Polanski ...

ROSEMARY'S BABY, REPULSION, KNIFE IN THE WATER, THE TENANT ... Look at these films ... The guy is a master filmmaker, one of the true greats ... In a world in which words like "great" and "genius" are thrown around indiscriminantly, Polanski is the real deal, and ROSEMARY'S BABY is a big reason why ...

The rest, though, yeah, I'm with you all the way.
