he's a decade too old for the role.
Gah. They're stuck on that "let's cast some young unknown underwear model" mantra, aren't they?

In Brightest Day
In Blackest Night
No Evil Can Escape My Sight
Let's Cast Some Young Unknown Underwear Model
Green Lantern's Light
That's a shit mantra. And Boreanz being wrong for the role (for this film or as the lead of any film) doesn't mean they're going to CW this bitch.

Yeah, Hal Jordan as a 22-year-old, right? DC probably skipped out on Iron Man and TIH out of spite and missed out on how you don't need a background extra from Cloverfield to be your main character to make a good and succesful movie.
Is Green Lantern going under the "darker" label for DC Comics movies, too?

He's 27 in the script.

Hopefully this film will be boiling over with dead Latino meth dealers.

Latinos don't use or deal meth. But, Doomsday is the fucking shit.

That script sounds almost exactly like Emerald Dawn. Awesome.

Sounds good.
Some of you seem disappointed that David Boreanaz isn't going to be Green Lantern. Am I missing something here?

Boreanaz was great on Angel, and though I don't watch Bones I'm perfectly content in assuming he's the best thing about it. Not saying he would have been a good Green Lantern, I'm just saying.

I've seen some episodes of Bones. He's pretty good in it, and not nearly as stiff as he was in Buffy and Angel. Though that could have been the character.
It sounds good, and I'm glad about the balls to the walls action of the the thing. And Kilowog!

I am glad that Hal Jordan is Green Lantern, and I am especially happy about the lead of Angel, not being the lead in the film. Outside of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, I haven't liked any other project Joss Whedon directed. Will The WB actually get the film out by 2010 though?

People say Boreanaz was in Angel. Mind you I never got into the show. But everything else I've seen the guy in makes him look like a sinkhole of charisma.

Boreanaz has the presence of driftwood. Call me crazy, but I actually think Affleck would be a good Hal Jordan.

He was charismatic as hell in Angel, especially in the later seasons, and is pretty fun in Bones too. The guy's got a good groove on him.
That being said, I can't see him as Hal Jordan, but stranger things have happened.

He voiced Hal Jordan for the animated New Frontier. He's good at playing the cocky 50's era type. He's probably not right for a modern take on the origin story, though.

I would like to see him get the role, but that's more because he went to my high school and it's cool to see people with similar backgrounds being successful.

27 eh?? i always thought of hal jordan as more a mid-thirtys to 40ish in age
which made the switch to Kyle interesting as he was more of a mid twenties type

I'm liking what I'm hearing about the script. Lean, Kilowog, trips to space and Earth-based too, etc. Doesn't sound like the deepest thing ever, but it does sound like it hits all the strengths of the concept.

I really like what I read about the script..if they stick to it, hire a good lead (josh hartnett might fit), and get some good visual effects it could be a really good flick.

I always thought Emerald Dawn would make a great GL film - it was pretty much perfect as origin stories go, and the follow up, introducing Sinestro, might make a good sequel. If they do a trilogy, a variation on the Sinestro Corps War wouldn't be a bad third film, and could serve as a tie-in to a JLA movie.

I might be the only one, but I honestly preferred the Jack Black comedic route for this character to take. Would distinguish him from Supes and co., and wouldn't have to be a be-all, end-all, since he's only one Lantern.

Latinos don't use or deal meth.
I loved how he made that blanket statement so matter of factly.
Also, one of the biggest meth busts in my local area involved a meth lab being run by Mexicans. Don't tell Latino Review!

I think the full-on Jack Black comedy route would have been a bad idea.
However, I do think there was a way to distinguish this from Supes and co., and possibly add some humorous elements into a dramtic/sci-fi vehicle.
They should have used Guy Gardner as the Green Lantern in the film. Gardner has always been the most interesting personality and divisive character among the GL's. Much of that is to do with the fact that he's got a unique personality among super-heroes and other Lanterns. Hal Jordan and John Stewart are well meaning dullards. Kyle Rayner is nothing more than a Peter Parker rip-off with a power ring.
Gardner is deliciously obnoxious, sexist, politically incorrect and basically a thug. But very often funny with it. He'll probably turn up if they make a sequel, but he's a lot more interesting than the Hal/Kyle hybrid the filmmakers seem intent on.

I am glad to see the Hal Jordan Green Lantern, as I have been a fan of the character since Superfriends and early 70's Green Lantern and Justice League Comics. Jordan is not the first GL, so it is interesting the original Green Lantern Alan Scott is involved along with more alien GLs like Killawog.

Yeah, they should just kill the film's GL at the climax (and in the climax of any consequential entry), giving the ring to a new actor before the credits roll, setting the audience up for a cliffhanger, and a possible tonal change, depending on the actor chosen. Just brainstormin' (apologies). I don't need character consistency.
I like Boreanaz' TV work (ANGEL, BONES) enough, and thought he did a fine job in JLA: THE NEW FRONTIER, but I always hoped Ben Browder would get a big screen break with GL.

Josh Hartnett never fits.
