The last movie was pretty bad. I can still see them rebounding with two solid flicks, though. The second one was fantastic after all.

Russ Fischer, It will be good to see more Spider-Man films. It is definitely a great time to be a fan of Marvel Entertainment as the film adaptions of the Merry Marvel Marching Society keep on rolling. I hope Kirsten Dunst returns as Mary Jane Watson. The only problem with her as MJ is they made her too downbeat especially compared to the early 60's and 70's Spider-Man comics.
To me the order of the Spider-Man films should be
1) Spider-Man 3
2) Spider-Man
3) Spider-Man 2 (I disliked Parker giving up being Spider-Man as much as when I originally read that storyline in the comics.)

Sounds like a Secret Wars opening to me-eeee.
Not really, of course.

Back-to-back sequels should be SOP for all franchises. Waiting 2-4 years between films is the shits.
I'm glad they're doing this. Despite 3's flaws, this is still my favorite of the Marvel franchises.
As long as they come up with two really solid stories, we should be fine. Hiring the guy who wrote Zodiac is a good move. It wouldn't hurt them to bring some other people on though... Like Chabon again. I'm still pretty sure that he is more responsible than Alvin Sargent for 2's success.
And as far as Dunst as MJ. They shouldn't recast. At this point, continuity is important. Just write the character better than they have and it could work. It is what it is. They should leave it at that.

Questions about the films -- big ones -- linger.
I'd say. Six months with reduced work hours is the total amount of time expected for Tobey to complete his work on back-to-back Spider-Man productions? Have they even written Spider-Man 5? Maybe we'll see less Parker and more Spidey where Spider-Man actually (and conveniently) manages to keep his mask on throughout the duration of both films.

I think this is a given. Tobey was already looking... shall we say ... doughy in number 3. Check out that double chin at the end when he shouts "HARRY!!!!"
Something tells me he got bored and tired of maintaining his action hero physique and realized he didn't have to since he's wearing a mask for most of the big action scenes in the movie.
Ironically, 3 has him do the most action outside of the suit of all three movies.

Spidey 3 seemed to have an obsession with Peter showing his face out of the suit every few seconds in the middle of an action scene. I hope they just let it stay on for the sequels.

I'm just wondering who the villains will be - oh sure, I can see the Lizard and Kraven for the next one, but I can't see their storyline spilling over into part 5.
And if Dunst decides not to do the next two films, might I recommend Mary Elizabeth Winstead?

she's already a comic book love interest in Scott Pilgrim.

I can't believe I'm gonna say this. The writing of Spider-Man 3 in terms of dialouge seemed a lot more natural than the comic booky dialouge of 2. Still 2 has the better storyline and pacing (even if it did get a little slow at parts).
I'm tired of seeing a young Spider-Boy. Let the next one or two jump a few years. Yeah i have a problem with Tobey's voice. It just seems to boyish. If they have to rehire, hell put Topher Grace as Spider-man. Confusing? yeah. Perfect casting? yeah.

I don't know about all that, Spider-man has always been the boyish hero. He was a high school nerd AND a superhero. Besides, all the actors in the film are well beyond the young, stage, he's got a job, his own apartment, he's in college/ getting married. I guess i don't see the problem.

Thats the thing, it feels like while all the shit they throw on Peter, does he ever seem to learn from it? I felt that Spider-Man 3 was a huge step back. I mean who the hell kisses another girl in front of their girlfriend? Common sense? Oh no its just for the plot.

I agree. A lot of my problems with SM3 are in the editing, you know, the fact that it should've been two movies.

Do you realize Michael Chabon wrote most of SM2? Don't know if that name means anything to you, but I think he knew what he was doing.
I'm not a fan of the Spiderman movies, so I could care less. I have always wished that they'd have cast differently, so maybe that's why.

If Maguire's double chin suggests that he was past caring about his role in the franchise, then what about Sam Raimi..?
The final action scene is inter-cut with a live news report, along with commentary from the news anchor: "Could this be the end of Spider-Man?" as he's swinging about in the video frame above the anchor's shoulder.
That is bullshit, sloppy film making. The fact that this kind of thing occurred in the third installment is crazy.
I wonder if pushing two films through as one bigger production schedule will allow them to NOT finish even more effects shots this time. Not that the quality of CGI is the most important thing....but when your acting, story, editing are not doing it for me...the least they could do is have the $200+million behemoth look decent.

I read it so long ago that I might have imagined it, but I cudda sworn I'd read an interview with Raimi or Arad or someone that an interesting way to up the ante on another sequel would be to pit Spider-man against another hero. Does that ring a bell with anyone?
A fanboy might therefrom be induced to fantasize: you might be able to salvage Daredevil by putting him in a Spidey sequel: maybe he super-sensed Spider-man letting Sandman go at the end of number three, an act of moral ambiguity that Daredevil's own more rigid vigilante ethics wouldn't tolerate, inspiring him to put his own brand of hurt on the wall-crawler (further: after a late first act bout of misunderstood monomachy across the roof-tops and alleys of New York, they team up to track and take down the Lizard, whose bio-regenerative experiments were originally funded by a jailbird Kingpin trying to find a way to fix his fucked-up knees after DD crunched them in at the end of their first flick: double the hero! double the villain! double the oh fuck stop me now).
Maybe they should avoid killing everybody Spiderman doesn't forgive this time around.

What other Marvel character does Sony have the rights to? Not Daredevil (that's Fox).
