Patrick is our welcoming committee. He makes the rest of us look good. It's his job not to sort the shills from the well-intentioned but misguided while the rest of us pile on in a glorious orgy of social Darwinism.

Please don't spoil Patrick's childlike sense of wonder, fairness, and benefit of the doubtitude. I picture him with little welcome baskets full of amenities and perfumed soaps, handed out to shills, trolls and genuine new folks alike.

Great job, everyone- you've officially scared Sandy away. How the hell am I supposed to figure out which upcoming film remakes he's not looking forward to now?!?

The instant I saw this thread I started wondering how many little red boxes the guy/gal's gonna have. I have to say, I'm sort of dissapointed. I mean, one? Where's the vitriol for the people who can't even be bothered to spell newbie right?
Doc Happenin
11-13-2007, 02:29 PM
'noobie' is an accepted spelling of newbie, not used often, but acceptable. So is n00bie for the more leet speak inclined among us, and of course, n00b, noob, newb and even nub are acceptable to varying degrees for those of us who'd rather not be bothered by spelling a whole word out.

Can we get one new poster come in who writes coherently and has something intelligent to say? Are there any left? Are we in the house in NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, bickering and hating each other while the zombies slowly walk towards us?

Well, Nordling, see, in any zombie movie, it's not the zombies we have to really worry about. Sure, they're all lifeless and mindless, but the real tension is the human interaction between the characters and how they're going to kill one another (or do something that in some way puts another into the vicious bite of a zombie).
I had a point, it's somewhere...
Oh yeah, locking the basement. We should lock this thread before it devolves into something worse than it already is.

I beg to differ, Doc. "noobie" and its derivatives are derogatory in nature. "newbie" is simply one who is fresh to the boards.
We should be thanking this person for helping us differentiate and thus not waste any more time than necessary not talking about movies.

That's my point! There's not going to be five, or even ten of them! There's going to be twenty, thirty, maybe a hundred of those things, and as soon as they find out we're here, this place'll be crawling with them!
I'll be in the cellar if you need me.

Aah, true, I didn't make exception for the intended use, only the spelling issue. My mistake.
I'm going to hang out in the No Country for Old Men board until I die to try and pull myself away from here.

Custodian. Depending on the pay, being a shill could potentially be sort of entertaining. There's a lot of room for creativity there, but nobody ever puts forth the fucking effort.
Being paid to figure out how to "infiltrate" boards wouldn't be so bad. Like playing "Thief", but with words and instead of stealing loot you're stealing hearts and minds for Lionsgate (or whoeverthefuck).

Speaking from personal experience - bathroom custodian (never worked as one at Wal-Mart, but even so). Being a shill can't come close to any horrors you'd see in your average bathroom stall.
