I'm not sure if it's a rule or anything or the board but how hard is it to provide a link to stories you get on the internet? You're copying and pasting the article anyways so why not the link? Or if it's in an email, I'm sure the link is in there somewhere.

I may not be the best when it comes to spelling and grammar but at least I know how to cite sources, which is something I was great at in school and the teachers loved me for it.

I see it happen to often on the board. It's just helpful in case someone wants to read the actual article on the site or in case information might be missing from when someone posts it. Or if it's good political article a student might want to use it in a paper or something.

I think this excerpt from an article I found on the web sums it up nicely:

Citations allow readers to locate and further explore the sources you consulted, show the depth and scope of your research, and give credit to authors for their ideas. Citations provide evidence for your arguments and add credibility to your work by demonstrating that you have sought out and considered a variety of resources. In written academic work, citing sources is standard practice and shows that you are responding to this person, agreeing with that person, and adding something of your own. Think of documenting your sources as providing a trail for your reader to follow to see the research you performed and discover what led you to your original contribution.

I think this excerpt from an article I found on the web (http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/instruct/guides/citations.html) sums it up nicely:
