Deceptive title! Still, if I were 10 again, I would've wet myself at this news. Not so much because of Dead Silence.

The HHN haunted houses are usually not as good as you'd think, although I'd love to see a Thing-themed house. If you go, prepare to spend three hours waiting in line for this one.

You going to this, Dickson?

Aw man, are the lines that bad? I really want to see how well the Elm Street and Leatherface houses are recreated but I absolutely hate waiting on crazy lines at theme parks.

Pretty funny, since I rip on people who go on tours to famous horror locations, that I'd be so down to check this out.

Yep. It's still really fun, but I don't know if I'd recommend a trip from NY to FL for it, though. The last time I went, I was only able to see 3 of the seven-or-so houses, and they were all a little bit disappointing.

The regular park rides are given a Halloween tweaking, so that's pretty fun. If you've never been to the park, I'd recommend checking it out.

Haven't been there in 6 years, and really want to take my girl, who's never been to Florida. Figured taking her during this event was a win-win situation. Thanks for the advice, though. Might have to try and plan the trip to beat the crowd, which might be impossible...

Alex, have you been to Eastern State Penitentiary for Halloween? Sure, it doesn't have the cool film tie-ins, but it's a hell of a lot closer. And it's still a pretty big deal. Killadelphia is only a hop, skip and jump from NYC.

Nope, haven't. That good? Maybe someone should start a thread about good haunted houses and such for October. I heard that one called NIGHTMARE in NYC was pretty good.

I'm actually gonna be one of the actors in the Thing-themed house this year. Even cooler? My character name is Rob Bottin. SWEET.

this looks so cool. does anyone know if the Hollywood version puts on the same type of show as the Orlando one, or does Florida get all the good stuff? the official site has lots of info on the Orlando one right now, but nothing much on the Hollywood location. I had planned to go to Knott's Berry Farm this year, but I'm fully prepared to scrap that idea if something better comes along...

I remember one year (maybe last year) HHN were doing that "mad director" theme, was that any good?

I produced a special for the Travel Channel last year on Halloween attractions. What sets Eastern State apart is the locale. It doesn't smell like a Halloween attraction. It's a 100 year old prison, and you can smell and feel that when you walk through.

The Bates Motel hayride in rural PA was the best of the ones I covered.

Can you work the press angle at all?

I really wish I could go to Florida and check out The Thing haunted house, whether it be crappy or not, it's still The freakin' Thing.

Exactly. I'm more excited about that house than any of the others, obviously. I hope we can do a blood test and find out which one of us isn't trustworthy.

Lionel - that is fucking awesome. Kill a dog for me!

Can you work the press angle at all?

I'm trying! We shall see. I'd like to be able to let you guys know if it's good or not.

If you go, I'll be looking out for ya, Alex!

Oh, great. Like I won't be paranoid enough in a place where anyone could be The Thing.

Hell yeah, The Bates Motel is great, although Eastern State Penitentiary rocks. Being somewhat of a haunted hayride connoisseur (at least as far as Pennsylvania is concerned), I'd also recommend Jason's Woods. As for the Penitentiary, during non-Halloween season, you can arrange to do ghost tours at night time... sort of a "Ghost Hunters" type thing. Very creepy, very atmospheric.

Whilst in line, take the time out to look at the people who are likely to accompany you...at least one of them is a plant (or should be...).
I guarantee the Japanese student standing next to you is COVERED in squibs.
(or he could just be a haemophiliac with epileptic tendancies.)

The Dungeons in the Uk are pretty good haunted house affairs. I wnet to the York one a few weeks back.

Shit. I won't be able to make this. On the one hand, I hope the Thing house rocks, just because it'd be cool for it to do so. On the other hand, I'd hate to have missed it if that were the case. Even better, I guess, is hoping it'll rock SO hard they'd consider making a permanent attraction out of it. What do you think the odds of that happening are? Hey, it can't be any lamer than the "Jaws" ride, right?

I never got to go to one of these when I lived in California. I heard from friends that they were both great, yet frustrating due to the aforementioned problems with hours of waiting in line. I would give a nut to go to this though. I'm seriously thinking about trying to reschedule my December vacation for this. The Thing house makes this such a huge draw.
